I have been searching the threads and noticed in some of our US markets that the cars are not equally priced. Example is Algar has a 97 355 spider with 10, miles and recently completed service for $89,000.00. This translates into about 105,000 CDN. I have not seen a 97 355 with 15,000kms hit that price with a full service. This is not the first time I have noticed this this year. Why the discrepency?

    Hi Rick!!

Its a supply and demand thing up here. The Us has so many Ferrari's to choose from as opposed to us up here in the cold north. Ferrari's will always bring more of a price here in Canada then in the Us.

But you must also remember that the 355 needs bumper conversions to be legal here in Canada and datyime running lights, along with a KPH speedo. And the only place that can install the bumpers and sign off on the paper work is FoO. They will ding ya for 15k by the time its all said and done. It may be even worth it for an older 355 with a good service history to bring accross the boarder. Some of the prices for the 355 up here are boarder line insane but mostly thats for the Spiders. A good 95 355B (my personal fav as you know) will bring just over 100k. A car needing a service with rubber will bring in the mid to high 90's.

Little, I have been pondering this over for over two years now. The only logical explanatoin to me is exactly what Tom previously stated: supply and demand. It's a pure monopoly here. Even if you try to import in an attempt to save some moolah, you get jacked by FoO to the extent where any savings are negligible. The only you choice you have is to buy locally; which really sucks.

This is much, much worse with Lamborghini's. A typical Diablo 6.0 in Ontario fetches approx. $260k CDN (~ $222.527K USD) whereas in the US the same car (although US Spec) hits roughly $160K-$180K USD. Go figure. The story get's absolutley brutal with Gallardo's, as brand new ones retail for approx. $260K (again, about $222.527K USD). New Gallardo's in the US do NOT go for $222K USD. That's Murcielago territory down south. This fact alone makes me want to move down south once I get out in the workforce :(

Rick, you know we've talked about this here many times. Its not worth it unless its an older car a classic or Vintage specialty car etc.

Again, this is my opinion. But by the time you pay the $15,000.00 CDN PLUS to convert this 97 355 to CDN Spec. (if someone will sell you the parts) plus duty and transportation charges. IT AINT WORTH IT!

If you are on that trip then there is a U.S 1998 Red/Tan Spider with 23K Miles here, landed, complete with books and history for only $129,900.00

Do the math, I am sure you've seen it in the trader. I was told by the owner that it's a very nice one too. It's been on Canuck soil for a bit.

Vasco, I believe Rick is asking about the explanation towards the discrepency, not the reasons as to "why noy import?" :p Having said that, what you posted is absolutley correct concerning the end results of imports.

True. I just get tripped out when this U.S/CDN spec issue comes up. But as Tom says there are sooo many cars down there that prices go down. It's basic economics. Even on eBay, do a search on Ferrari's. eBay.ca Canada always has 250-350 cars for sale of all types. There are usually close to that number of Ferrari's alone on eBay.com (U.S)

I do not want to convert a car, I have heard the horror of that already. I was asking because it just doesnt make sense. I realize the supply and demand of course. But I just saw another thread in the Cchicago section that has a 355 rag, all books records, new rubbers, and fresh service red/tan for 89US. They are talking about the car to go for about 85k, and people that know this car there say its a great healthy example.

Vasco, if I wanted one I know autoforum has the red/tan 355 right now in the 130 ish range. I was wondering why we have this discrepency? I didnt think we had such a vast difference now that Im putting pen to paper to these these things. I guess just another thing we Canadians keep getting ripped off about. **sign**

Rick.. If you really want a 355 (heavens I can't understanad why with you owning a wonderful flat 12 Testarossa) let me know. I could set a price for that car that is very good for the Canadian market. You have seen the car..heard the car..and been blowen past by the car ;)...Let me know and I will see what I can do. But honestly..i would not give up your 12 for a V8 Ferrari. There is nothing..I repeat nothing.. like a 12 cyliner Ferrari!!

Sorry bro, I know I've been sliding in my comebacks during the past few months. I'm desperatley awaiting this vacation... you have no clue how badly I'm ticking down the seconds til the 19th. This Univ. crap is killing me. I don't even know why I'm doing SCI courses.... I keep thinking I'd be so much better off in Law, at least I'd enjoy studying that stuff. Think it's about time I went in for some Guidance Counselling, even though it'll be utter crap anyways
