Well, that's news to me! I wonder if there is a year they changed the header in the U.S. model.

 

1972-on according to the parts diagram the OP posted above.

 

all USA daytonas had the header design posted. the metal shrouding is packed with fiberglass(?) to quickly heat up the headers to help burn unburnt gases. part of smog compliance.

 

Smaller diameter pipes to; than the euro version as I recall.

 

and the pipes didnt perfectly align with the head exhaust ports. so a little more restriction.
