Mr. Ferrari arrived that day in a maroon 4 door; at least it had a Ferrari V-8 motor. The journalists were admonished 'no flash pictures'. When the doors to the auditorium opened and Mr. Ferrari walked in it was pandemonium with a blinding force of camera flashes. A very special occasion for sure. When introduced there was some question if 275 buyers could be found for such a car...

I understand that when the red cover was pulled, the Old Man uttered softly into the microphone: "Bello, Molto Bello..."

a friend of mine bought one new in 87 i think
he was told when purchasing the car would have been built in 300 (or 400...do not remember, sorry) examples

he sold the car to a friend that still has it

when last year talking about F40 i told him they made over 1300 cars...he didn't believed it ;)

p.s. the 1300 plus number is a combination of a great car and exotic market boom of the era (imo)

It is interesting to note that in a couple of the drawings the prototype 5 VENT rear fender is used for the illustration. The other drawings show the production 4 vent rear fender. The F40 thread continues to provide interesting information. Thanks Joe!

And all this time I thought it was only that ridiculously expensive plastic chin spoiler that marked the difference :D. Good info to know and thanks for the diagrams.

There are substantial differences to chassis, body, interior, electronics, fuel system, mechanicals & more.

Of interest, the USA cars have the 288 GTO gearbox.... why change a good thing?

I tried, but ultimately just missed. :(

I think it was a reasonable price for the car. I was hoping for around the 420 including commissions but I was looking for a bargain!

If it really went for that price (about $500,000 with commissions) that's a good deal for that car for sure IMO.

Yes, 420k. The reserve came off at around 410/415. I was expecting it to move further up but it just stopped and the hammer came down.

I believe the commissions were 8% but I can't find the buyer agreement on the website anymore.
