that spread of 84k was probably, in my estimation, not anywhere near 84k. a car that is coming up all kinds of short from its estimate will usually find the auction house accomodating/negotiating with the seller to drop the reserve; they will entice you with lowering or eliminating the sellers' side of the commission; and often lowering quite a bit the buyers' premium as well.

when i bought a 71 hemi challenger RS shaker hood car at Russo in january, it was quite the haggle scene going on while the ringmen kept looking for other bids. i paid a very small commission and they dropped the sellers premium to a flat zero. if you watch russo and steele, or better, mecum's on TV enough, u c it all the time.

the house would rather make 2,3,4 grand than not at all. so often they cut their take big time which would probably the case here. car was coming up short. they tell the seller, we can cut your price, etc. drop your reserve you do as good as if the car had gotten , well, 82 out of the 84k more. i thikn some auctions list the prices sold including the sellers' premium?? does their site show that data at all? though i think noone includes the premium from both sides.

dont presume the spread was 15k and definately not 82k. someone budged and probably everyone gave up a lot, including the seller.

isnt the buyer on fchat? would be great if he wouldnt mind sharing the story of how that went down.

Even a standard street F40 (with straight pipes and cats delete) will emit flame upon overrun!
