    Armen,

Wait till you see THIS one...

BTW I drove past Fresno the other day and thought fondly of "86640". Im sure Phillip is taking good care of it.

Caution: regular lifting open of the F40's rear hood may develop muscles.

Joe, weren't there three tires offered:

    Pirelli P Zero
    Michelin
Goodyear (Ferrari's tire supplier at the time).

Great thread. I adore the F40 and would love to have one nestled in the garage one day!

Lovely pics, but I cannot share your views on the US 'bumperettes' - they appear an afterthought and tacked on

In the scheme of things, a minute failing mind you :)

I have always wanted to know Euro vs USA differences - seems from what you wrote in your first posts that they go far deeper than I thought. $12mil couldn't have been just spent on smacking on those plastic "bumpers" (and I have to disagree - another non-fan of those) and changing the tanks. I am greatly looking forward to the outcome of your investigation, if I may call it so.

With that I'd like to share what deep respect I have for you - you've previously amazed me with an outstanding knowledge of all things Miura related (IMO the most beautiful car made to date). Now you uncover before us your vast knowledge of the F40, which in turn is my all time favourite car. What can I say... I'm very grateful you've decided to share all this with us, the car lovers that we are ;)

Edit - I may have one entry for your F40 registry :) The car that appeared during Modena Trackdays 2007 in Germnay (photo below). Photo is on another computer though, probably won't have it in the next few days unfortunately.

I'm sure Joe will research much more deeply; but in addition to the obvious bumpers, seats and belts, while just leafing through the parts manual, I've noticed the ring&pinion ratio and brake line plumbing are unique to the US cars.

Interestingly on other Euro vs. US of the period, I've noticed: US foglights switch off w/Highbeam, US no rear foglight, US driver's sideview mirror flat, and the more obvious side marker lights.

Joe I'll email you details on a US 1992 in Texas.

Thanks for the info on your car Mark. Youll have to post images when you can. There is a staggering amount of detail differences both cosmetic and mechanical between a USA and Euro car and I hope to publish a basic list soon.

From what the Ferrari SpA representative tells me this California-based company made the carbonfibre panels of ALL F40s... I shall establish what the details are.

Wouldn't the parts detail the differences in the US spec cars?
The F50 parts manual makes the differences in US spec obvious.

Yes indeed, the parts manual goes a long way but there are a few other differences that are not noted therin.
