    Nice work, gentlemen.

((In need of assistance, the Special Tactics operators on the ground called for an AC-130U “Spooky” Gunship, (Callsign Spooky 41) who arrived to suppress the enemy located in close proximity to the group.

As the gunship fired down on the enemy, at times less than 140 meters from the group, three medical-evacuation helicopters hovered more than an hour to safely rescue all 15 patients.

The enemy was not able to get a single shot off at the MEDEVAC helicopters, due to the precise airpower strikes of Spooky 41’s aircrew.))

    Good on them.

I had no idea a 130 had that kind of time on target capability.

In 1945 when we were searching for two B-17 crew members on or near the west shore of the Chesapeake bay, a PBY5 from Norfolk Naval Sta. cruised up and down the bay at maybe 500 ft. altitude from 1200 to 0900 the next day, in and out of a raging thunderstorm. It was an amazing display of airmanship. We found the two guys a week later in the water near shore. Wouldn't volunteer for anything like that ever again.

I failed mention that the two crew members bailed out un-ordered when their B-17 was stuck by lightning and lit up like a 4th Of July fire works display. They were just north of Langley Field, about 26 miles, and the airplane landed safely, because of a pilot who had no instruments and everything else burned out, facing a blinding rain storm, and with a lot of guts and skill, landed without hurting anything. Estimates were that the crew left the airplane near Yorktown , Va. and that is where the search started.

How would you like to be the bad guys on the ground with an AC-130 shooting at you for several hours? Not a fun way to make a living.

My oldest son served in Vietnam in a helicopter outfit and he said that a "Spooky" circling and firing into the center of the circle on the ground could obliterate everything including the landscape. I can't imagine what an AC130 could do with their advanced weaponry. Awesome weapon.
