    Hi all,

I really want to get into a 458 but I also want to finance as little as possible. The pennies I'm able to set aside will get me a non financed used mid to low optioned 458 at current prices in 2-3 years. Does anyone have any guesses when 2010s will come on the market at a 230-220 price point and below? Are auction prices coming down a little on 2010s? Thanks!

I just spent 6 months watching the used F458 market before ordering a new car (MY2013 with July/Aug build!)

I think you are 1 year plus away from the $230k range UNLESS you buy one of the few on the market with VERY high miles and multiple owners.

Good, clean, reasonable mileage F458s are going to sell at or near original MSRP in my view.

Are there a few of those on the market currently at some dealer?

Check out post 40. Resale is still high.

2 years old and still resold at sticker.... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=365962&page=2

Other than this, your guess is as good as anyone. However, Ferrari is keeping the fight to retain resale values of the 458 so that it doesn't repeat the drastic fall of the F430 and Scuds from 2009 to 2011.

Sure you can get one for 220 or so in a year. But, it will be a plain jane, high mileage or previously crashed one. You're better off getting what you want instead of settling for the least when spending this amount of cash.

Besides, your resale will be higher also. Garbage in... garbage out.

Ultimately, you shouldn't let a bunch of guys on a forum make a decision for you, but hopefully we can at least point you in the right direction.

Why not just get a very nice, highly optioned and low mile F430 for a fraction of a 458?

I got out of a Gallardo Spyder 6 months ago. I test drove a 06 F430 Spider a while back but it didn't do anything for me. I actually enjoyed the California more. But then I drove the 458 and am smitten. I realize the Scuderia compares favorably in performance and price to the 458 but since my next car is not going to be garage queen and will be driven like I'm dying in 2 years I prefer the comfort of the 458. I also prefer its shape. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Very different car, IMHO. Ferrari moved the ball so far forward from the 430 to 458 that it has become difficult to think of them as comparable buys when making a purchasing difference. Of course there is an astronomic difference in price too with the severe depreciation on the 430.

In a year or two, you'll be able to get one at a decent price. I've seen several in the 230k range. Depends on how long you intend to keep the car as to what you are willing to pay, and what options you want. I've seen heavily optioned 430s selling for about the same as those without the options. Same thing is going to happen here. If your intent is to drive it, keep it for a couple of years, I'd say wait a year or two, watch the Spider drive down the coupe prices, and pick one up at a major discount.

These kinds of threads are pretty useless because you have two groups of people. "Oh.... I saw this, I heard THAT, etc etc".

So, here's the two conflicting groups giving "unbiased advice":

    1) future owners who want to drive down prices so they can afford one

    and

    2) current owners who want to hold on to resale value.

There is one thing that is interesting though. When group one finally buys a car, they immediately change into group two and resist the group one from where they came. :)

There is wisdom here. At the margin you will likely do much better to find another 20-30K to invest and get something that will have most of the things you want, be well maintained and have low mileage, and serve you well when the time comes to sell.

I understand how you feel about the 458. It is that seductive.
