I did not have a leak down test performed on my '99, you have to answer that question for yourself.
When was the last service and what did they do?? Major service can mean a couple of things.

You could hire an inde to go check the car out for you... Ought to be cheaper than going yourself and probably quite reliant service too...

In reading the thread at the top where a member gives tips on 360 ownership I was struck by one comment. The cost over and above the price of 10k for any surprises after purchase and 10k for first year maintence.....is that accurate?

You will have a big repair at some point. Just like any other older car. It's just these parts are much more rare and expensive.

Get the leak down. You want it for peace of mind, then get it. If they say no, Effffff them and move on to another 360. Plenty out there that will thrill you! Don't compromise on what you feel you need to make the deal happen. GLW find the right ride!

Before buying have a PPI performed on the car. Going rate is usually $100 per cylinder, so $800 for a 360. I did not have a PPI performed on the 360 I bought in in 2015, but I got the car below market price. The seller was caught between the rock and the hard place. Having $10K in your back pocket when you buy one of these cars is not a bad idea. if you do not use it right after purchasing it set it aside as your Ferrari fund. Yearly service is going to be about $1K if performed by a good Ferrari mechanic.

Also have them send you copies of the records they have. See how it was serviced when, and by who.

My cost after buying my 2001 with 42K on it was twice the $10K. But now there is nothing wrong with it and I feel confident I can drive it any where without stressing about what may go wrong in and out of the way place.

My only concern about this car is, you sound like your in N. CA and the car is in S. CA. If I was the potential buyer I would not have a warm fuzzy feeling about that. Nothing beats seeing the car, touching the car, and driving it. F Chat is full of sad tales of woe of people who bought a Ferrari away from home and did not go see it.

You probably did not marry your wife without seeing her first, use the same logic when thinking about buying a Ferrari.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

    CB

PS Make sure you have three working FOBs and the PIN. Ferrari sells FOBs by threes for $900. To program them you have to buy a new PIN, $500.

PPI with leak down was done on my '99 in Tacoma WA for $600 by a well known shop there. Can't say what cost would be in Phoenix, however you should do it for peace of mind.
Agree that viewing and driving the car a must before buying. And yes, plan to spend $10K in the near future to set things right. My car runs/drives great, but needs belts, tires, transmission and motor mounts, brakes, and a few other items to be be perfect. It goes to the shop Oct 1st and I fully expect it to cost around $8-10K.
I am 2 hours north of Scottsdale and could have a look for you next time in the Phoenix area....but there's no substitute for your personal inspection. PM me if I can help.

Sounds great to me! Everyone knows that you should always believe EVERYTHING a used car salesman tells you, especially someone selling a Ferrari. (NOT)

If it is not on paper, it didn't happen.

Sets of new fobs include a new PIN for the price. The $500 mentioned is if you do not have your old PIN, necessary to program the Alarm ECU to accept a new set of fobs and new PIN.
