Pound is at 1.3 - $1USD. It appears the 458's are about $30k usd cheaper in the UK (looking for a 2011, or 12) and wondering if the 458 has a US version or if they are all the same in terms of smog equipment, lights, bumpers etc. I know older cars are different, but am trying to find if the 458 euro build (left hand drive) can be imported to the US- I'm in Montana so no smog requirements. I have imported race cars from the UK and was really simple. Anyone import a 458 to the us? I have found multiple cars under 10k miles for under $160k US. Import tax is 2.5%

It's not only the import tax to think about. No smog state will help it but customs still have their rules. Just alone the bumper change to US spec will run 10k+. Then the software needs to be reset etc etc... So many hidden fees that you can't anticipate. By the time you are done you will have spent the money saved on meeting the import guidelines. In addition to that you have a steeper depreciation as it will be a pain to sell a euro car in the US. You will have a very hard time selling it. I was informing myself for a friend who I wanted to help import a Porsche. Saving to US model was 50k but all of that would have went into updates and depreciation. Not worth it

    +2.

It works like that in both ways. I once shipped my personal M5 to France as I moved there. The whole process to make the car to EU spec took more than 6 months through BMW dealership in France, cost lots of money. However, loved the feeling that I drove ths same car in 3 different continents. It ended up getting stolen at Disneyland Paris Golf Course, then recovered abandonned on a highway 2 days after in skeleton. Getting money back from insurance company took another 6 months. Europe is totally different. Just changing insurance company is a nightmare where you can't do it during the term you signed for.

+1, fwiw import tax was super high on my challenge bumpers which came from Europe,
had to hire a customs broker, etc.., huge hassle, can't imagine with a car along with all
the other considerations raised by Steven
