Hi, I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I'll be in Pheonix as of May 1 for 4 months. I'm flying in and looking to buy a car when i get down there, and sell again before I leave. Anybody have any suggestions on trustworthy dealerships with websites? I'm not looking for anything fancy, but nothing cruddy either! Something that I could easily sell at the end of the summer. Just hoping to get some advice! Thanks.

    Howdy Chris,

Wow, bad luck with being in Phoenix the 4 least desireable months of the year.......

    What are you seeking?

New or used, functional transportation or sports car, etc.? If you buy at retail and sell at wholesale 4 months later, you'll lose 20% quickly. You might consider buying from a private party. I've used autotrader.com which lists dealer and private party vehicles for sale.

    Good luck!

I needed a 3rd car for a few months last year and rented a brand new Pontiac G6 from Enterprise for $600/month. Not a bad deal, if it works for you.

Yeah, I was down there last summer in July. Hot as hell, but not nearly as humid as Montreal. Trust me, the humidity is worse. lol.

Anyways, I'm coming down for work. I'm only 19 (20 in june), and i don't have unlimited funds. I dont want to buy new, as i'll lose too much when i resell. I wanted to buy used and sell again. I'm just looking for opinions on what model you guys think i could buy and sell 4 months later, while losing the least amount of money possible. I dont have time between school and the day i start work to drive down, so i have to fly in and get something down there.

I know its a Ferrari forum, but i figured theres gotta be someone on this board who works in the auto market who might have some tips on where to look before I go down, and when i arrive.

The renting for 4 months doesn't sound too bad. $600/month, unlimited miles?

    Thanks!

Why dont you drive down. You will save money in flying, rental car, depreciation. If money is tight, buying a car and selling it in four months wont be smart.

It doesnt look like i'll have much time to drive down. Time is going to tighter than money...

The rental I did was through Enterprise and was on a special program called "month or more". You need to use those exact words over and over, because few of them have ever heard of it. Do not rent at the airport location - they charge you an extra $5 a day. That adds up. But, get the car and then you can swap it when they get their new deliveries. I was quite happy to drive a new Pontiac G6 GT with 8 miles on the odometer. It wasn't a rocket, but a brand-new part-time car isn't bad for $600/mo.
