we were in turn 12 in 2019, good view of that braking zone and on around 13-14-15, plus you can see a bit of turn 1 in the distance. Over the weekend we also walked around a lot, the view of the cars changing direction thru the esses was incredible.

10 years and things need fixing? Road America went 40 before any work was done, and this in cold country. What determines the deterioration of a track surface, I wonder?

Texas has what may be the most unstable soils in the US. The swelling of extreme wet soils to shrinkage due to extremely dry causes wild shifting, heaving and sinking. Unfortunately that leads to movement in man made structures including poured and paved surfaces.

Motorsport IT reports that Ferrari decided to change Leclerc's engine. He will drop five positions on the US GP grid because the engineers have approved the installation of PU 6.

The land used to build COTA was relatively flat before they made all the elevation changes, settling of all the dirt they brought in (or moved around) has caused the issues.

Dropping 5 places on the start is really nothing, when we know that in the race only 2 Redbulls are faster than us.

Still, I wish Ferrari could improve/test new parts of the engine, but not sure whether engine development is allowed during the season.
    (Maybe let's do this the 'Red-Bull way' ? :D)

He has surprised me with some of his performances this season. I don't think that he can match the sheer speed and tenacity of Max.

Any Ferrari eating Red-Bulls would be nice. But even after dropping 5 places for PU change, I'm all for Leclerc.
Tyre degradation is another aspect ;P

This is certainly true in east-Austin where COTA resides.
This is not true in much of the hill country where after you go down a couple of feet, you reach Caliche.

I hope it's real. In this livery, Williams will be definitely a star of the show. They just need Chuck Norris to get behind the wheel. ; )

BTW those pics brought a sad conclusion to me, about the size of F1 cars nowadays.

    2022 must be ~ 5.8 metres long :D
It is also a good perspective to see why F1 is never the same again.

LeClerc is fighting Perez for 2nd in the championship, so if this hurts his points in Austin, the new engine should help Charles in the last 3 races. Ferrari should stay ahead of Mercedes easily, but Mercedes says they are bringing more upgrades to Texas too.
