This is the latest: http://www.usgpindy.com/news/story.php?story_id=5039 Michelin North America, Inc. and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) announced today the details of the ticket refund process for ticket holders to the 2005 Formula One United States Grand Prix (USGP). All tickets purchased for race day (June 19, 2005) are eligible for the Michelin ticket refund. "By working with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we've created a thorough and quick process to reach out to all those fans present at the United States Grand Prix and offer them the face value refund of their race day ticket," said Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America, Inc. "In addition to the ticket refund, we will provide 20,000 tickets to the 2006 USGP at Indianapolis to dedicated fans who purchased tickets to this year's race. We hope through these gestures to encourage the further development of F1 in the United States." "Although many different parties had an influence on the race run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 19, Michelin has made a tremendous commitment to the fans of the United States Grand Prix," said IMS President and Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood. "We've been working closely with Michelin to work out the details of the ticket refund process and we commend them on their commitment to a speedy and full response to the fans." For the vast majority of ticket purchasers, no action will be required to receive the Michelin ticket refund. IMS has begun sorting information on their USGP Account Holders automatically so Michelin can provide ticket refunds directly to them. USGP Account Holders will be mailed a letter next week detailing the ticket refund process. Other individual race day ticket holders can submit their ticket stubs, along with a completed Stubbed Ticket Claim Form to IMS beginning Aug. 8. Stubbed ticket refund requests must be postmarked by Aug. 29, 2005 to be included in the ticket refund process. The ticket refund will be administered by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. On Aug. 8, details of the process and claim forms for individual ticket holders will be available online at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com <http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/>, at the IMS Ticket Office or on request by phone at 1 877 950-USGP ( 1 877 950-8747). Details of the program will also be posted on Michelin websites. Michelin refund checks for USGP Account Holders and for individual ticket claims are expected to be issued and mailed between Sept. 19 and Sept. 26. If the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis is included on the 2006 Formula One schedule, Michelin will also purchase 20,000 tickets to that event. These tickets will be made available to fans that purchased tickets for the 2005 race. Details of the 2006 Michelin ticket distribution process are being finalized and will be announced after the Formula One calendar for 2006 has been released by the FIA. stephen
That's good news, thanks for posting. I figured that for those of us with accounts with IMS they'd have all the pertinent information on our ticket purchases for years we've patronized them and the refund process would be quite simple. It will be interesting to see the criteria set forth for the 20,000 tickets. We purchased six Saturday and race day tickets this year. Wonder if that might make us eligible. Looks like we'll have to wait until most likey mid December when FIA gives the final okay to the schedule. Carol
Does anybody know whether FCA plans to provide any coordination with IMS to refund the tickets purchased through them? It appears as though people in this category are considered "Individual Ticket Holders," which means the stubs themselves must be surrendered. In my case, one stub is now in Belgium, another in Thailand, a third is across town (maybe), two are at my house, and one (my wife's stub) went into the trash at the Speedway right after the race. So, getting the full refund becomes a bit complicated. Anybody know anything in this regard?
I think the reason that the IMS is doing it this way is to prevent the scalpers from doing a double dip if you will since they are refunding tickets at face value to the person that returnd them to IMS. Any scalper that bought tickets from the IMS then sold them for a profit could not get a refund. One thing i just wonder is if the IMS charge the a processing fee for ticket orders. How about a refund on that?
Got an e-mail back from FCA, within an hour of my inquiry - pretty impressive. Anyway, FCA is trying to work out an arrangement with IMS, and promised to put my e-mail and phone number in its USGP file so I can be notified as to the results of its negotiations. I contacted FCA via the "Contact us" e-mail link on its website. We'll see how it goes.
I want to personally post a little bit of information for the benefit of all Ferrarichat users that went to USGP. I had a conclusive and constructive conversation with one of the chief officials at Indianapolis regarding the USGP refunds. The message is that please do not be in a hurry and do not get frustrated to get your refunds back as soon as possible. All the customer relations personel have been instructed to entertain calls from any race fan that acquired a ticket through group purchases, dealer websites, clubs, family, and other means. All refunds WILL be in due time after DUE process. Please be cooperative and not aggresive on the phone. It was the FAULT of MICHELIN and not Indianapolis! Just as the press release says, all ticket holders will get letters in the mail. Please WAIT for your letter in the mail. PLEASE follow due process. If you think there may be a wrong mailing address contact the officials after a reasonable period has lapsed. Every ticket WILL be refunded AND every effort WILL be made to refund the ticket to the right customers. Please feel free to post on this thread regading the problems you are facing getting the refunds and I will try my hardest to give the information to the right persons involved. Once again please do not be aggresive on the phone and in letters. The refunds will take time but they will come. I am not at liberty to say more. There will be another press release with more information soon. Please remember to take your frustration out on MICHELIN and not anyone else! Thank you
I just got an e-mail back from the FCA, and they will NOT be involved in the refund process, so those of us who bought tickets through FCA will have to submit original ticket stubs for refunds. There is also a note to this effect on the FCA website. For me, that amounts to ~33 - 50% refund, depending on how many stubs I can round up. Better than nothing, less than I'd hoped, but I can understand how the refund process has to have certain standards to keep unscrupulous people from gaiming the system and taking unfair advantage of the process.
Ken, Try and gather the stubs you have. But I will make a few phone calls on Monday afternoon to see if anything can be done and have an update for you as soon as possible. Do you have any credit card receipt or invoice showing your purchase? Maybe you wrote a check that you can get a copy of from your bank. Any paper work may help.
cool. i hope that the 20k tickets michelin buys go to the first tickets purchased for the '06 race. that would be most xcelent. money back from last year and free tickets this year, too good to be true.
That's great assuming there's a race. The latest I discovered for making plans for '06 races was that the date of 25 June showing Indianapolis on an earlier posted provisional calendar was different. I found a site showing Magny-Cours on 25 June and the only NA race being Canada on 18 June. We'll just have to wait and see what the guru's choose for the finalized calendar. Carol
I like the idea of using IMS' database. I'd rather not part with my stubs. I'm a collector geek and have all of my past years stubs with the programs as well as Indy Star articles all sorted out for each year. Besides, USGP '05 was a historical event. Dave
I bought my tickets from an agency that is season ticket holders. How will they keep both the agency from collecting and me with the stub?
The refund process for non IMS Account Holders will not really start untill August 8. But you should call the IMS Ticket Office on 1 877 950 8747 and direct that question to them. To the best of my knowledge the agency will probably get the refund because they already have an established ticket account. IMS Account Holders and Suite Licensees will receive an automatic ticket refund from Michelin. Hope this helps.
I was worried about this since I bought mine thru the FCA. For the most part, I could care less if I got a penny back or not - BUT I do want it back if the agency that sold me the ticket was refunded on my behalf. That's my money, not theirs.
There's a flip side to that Rob. Doesn't our companion John have season tickets that were sold to purchase the seats we used? Will John get the refund for his tickets or will the refund go to the guy that ultimately used them? Gets pretty confusing pretty fast.
We don't know the details yet, but getting a refund will probably require turning in your ticket stub with the form.
Yes, almost exact same situation. The person that bought John's tickets should get the refund and we should get the refund for ones I bought. What a cluster. Jennie has had Michellins on her truck and they have been good tires, but I will never buy a Michellin for the rest of my life.
Many people....including me.....tore their ticket stubs up into little pieces in a fit of frustration. My girlfriend kept hers but mine is gone. I bought my tickets through Grand Prix Tickets and hopefully I can find a credit card statement to that effect. Will this be sufficient?
a lot of times right before the race people will sell tickets for less then face value. Anyone that got one of these tickets can actually turn it back in and make a little profit.
I am not a fan of Tony George for what he has done to CART, But I believe if F1 does not return to Indy it is BERNIE'S fault. He was quite vocal about the lack of promotion done by INDY. In Autoweek I have NOT seen an ad for the Indy 500 or the Brickyard 400 but several ad's for the F1 race. The infield stands are useless for the oval, so I feel Tony George was planning an extension of the F1 contract and Bernie was looking for an excuse(any excuse). Just like he did in Detroit when the moved from the streets to Belle island. It's all about MONEY and Bernie's talking to Vegas. I know this is off topic but you mentioned a lack of a F1 race in 06, so I gave my 2 cents. stephen
