Can an f1 box be used in a manual application, from what I understand the gearboxes are the same, its the ancillaries that differ. I would be grateful if anyone can confirm the basic box can be used, as I have access to a bare f1 version but want to use it for a normal h gate set up

    Appreciate any help and advice

    cheers

The F1 gearbox should be no problem at all....the difference is internal and will work with a manual set-up.

Some things, like the release bearing are specific to the F1 variant, but if you have your old box and the new box, you'd be able to get all the proper bits. IIRK, the lower cover is different on the f1 box because it is drilled to accept the position sensor. So that's the kind of minor stuff you'd face.

I installed a manual into an F1 a few years ago. I'll try to remember the details but I had to machine the release bearing flange because the inputshaft was shaped differently.

Can you turn a manual box into an F1?

    I've done it successfully.

PS since the F1 was a one year wonder in the 355 there were no used ones available. It was the only way to save our client huge $$$$$.

Because a new F1 tranny costs more than half of what the car is worth.

Thanks Karl. May investigate it further.

I've got a manual 355 gearbox and am considering putting it in my 348, ideally with a flappy pedal for faster gearshifts.

    I just want to clarify.
We were working on an existing F1 car. The gearbox failed and there were mo used ones available. We modified a gearbox that came out of a manual car and installed it in the F1. We did not convert the car from manual to F1.
