I'm in the market for a new phone and consider the Motorola Milestone (aka Droid in the US), or generally phones with Android. However, I am very reluctant to giving out any data to Google. Them knowing my whole emails, calendar, contacts would be my nightmare. Now what I read about using Android without a Google account is very contradictory: One site says everything works perfectly (with the exception of the app market, apps have to be installed manually via computer?), other articles say that it is completely unusable. Experiences, opinions of you guys?

Edit: I wouldn't mind setting up an account just for the market, but I really don't want to share any data with Google.

I've had a droid since the day it came out. I had and still do have the same reservations you have with Google. I set up at gmail account to activate the phone, but I never use it.

As far as the app market, I don't understand the site saying having to use the computer to install things? You d/l and install all the apps through the phone.

I should note I do not use email on the phone.
