On my V-1 it went down and was repaired under warranty.

Now it has gone down again.

    I love it otherwise.

Generally my radar detectors last for about 6 or 7 years and then they are stolen. Never had one fail before and the V-1 has failed twice.

Did I get the luck of the draw this time and got a bad one?

Or has quality slipped at V-1?

I have owned 3, none has ever failed. Still have my first one, since '99. A bit banged up, but works like a charm.

My first unit purchased several years ago had an LED fail, which was repaired under warranty...other than that, no other failures.

I have a newer one, purchased about one year ago...works perfectly.

About four years ago, I did have one problem....there is a huge radar antenna about a half mile from me, it was upgraded, and I started getting some sort of interference that set it off all the time, within a mile or so of the antenna. Valentine was very helpful, and explained that the older units were more suspectible to this. They gave me (free!) an updated power supply that eliminated this interference.

i've had mine since 1999 or 2000. same unit. superb condition. never had a single problem whatsoever with it. i move it between cars constantly. i've dropped it once or twice in the garage. rock-f'n-solid as far as i'm concerned.

i wish i could learn to keep my cars for as long as i've kept my V1!

    doody.

I've had mine since 2001 and never had any problem. I also used to take it to my European trips as well. They tell you how to program it for the euro radars... and it constantly going from one car to the other. the best radar detector I've owned.

    Roughly, I got one in 98, a second in 00, a third in 02, and a fourth in 04.
The 98 one failed... replaced under warranty. Otherwise, all have behaved perfectly and have been used extensively. They are very durable and well-made in my experience.

Why do you keep buying the newer models, doesn't the site say you can send it in and they'll upgrade it for a nominal amount..?

Are you asking me? I wasn't upgrading... I was adding. At first, I just bought it for my M3. Then another for my Ferrari when I added that. But I drove my wife's sportscar enough that I found myself "flying naked too often"... so, I got a third. Then I got a ticket in the SUV... what a waste that is! So, I added one for it too.

Yep, should've quoted your original post-- makes sense.. Are any of them hardwired into your cars?

I have had the same one since 1994 (I think they first came out in 1992?). The only thing wrong was when I dropped it in the parking lot last summer and since then the light that points to the sides no longer lights up. Not a big deal to me so I haven't bothered with trying to fix it. Other than that it has performed flawlessly. I think it is $279 to get it upgraded to the new version, but the version I have picks them up a mile away every time so I can't quite understand the difference and need. I could go on and testify about how great it is but that is probably in some other threads and everyone already knows anyway......

Got the first one in last July, and it has been working very well. I got stop by police once, but I forgot to turn V-1 on, so it was my fault.

By returning your unit under warranty, do they repair the same unit or provide you a refurbished unit?

Whats the deal with "hiding" them, can you insert them into the dash. And in states where they are illegal, whats teh fine, or is it something that they have to pull you over for something else first?

I've had mine since '95, had it upgraded in 2000. I still get tickets though; instant on is Ohio's favorite radar device.

    Thanks for the info.

I was a little surprised that it went out twice.

Everybody has both good and bad luck.
I have had extremely good luck with the Mondial t. So I guess it was my turn to get a little bad luck. Will send it in for repair.

Love the V-1 when it works.

Not in Ohio now, but have used the V-1 in Ohio. It was able to pick up instant on from the cars in front. Might have been lucky there.
