Just got my Valentine one upgraded. I entered the serial number of my old (as in several years old) unit on their web site, packed it up and they basically sent me a completely new uinit *(half the size, + all new mounts and cables) for $120 off the direct mail advertised price. I think it is still the numero uno detector, so I am a happy, better protected cat.
Not that I ever speed, of course.

    thx

$120 eh? not bad at all. Their typical website upgrades go for $179. I'm not that desparate to get the slimline model just yet.

Tell me, on this upgrade, do you still get the annoying laser alerts from Trailblazers and Envoys?

    You mean vehicles with onstar?
I have not had that happen.

Total cost was $270, my model was that old. I upgraded mostly for the new circuitry, better detection, fewer false alerts. We will see.

I'm pretty sure he means vehicles with LED brake lights. I wouldn't think Onstar would be an issue as it's sattelite driven.

My V1 is a couple months old and still gets set of by LED tailights. I'm not sure there would be a way to counter this without reducing efficacy of the laser warning.

Mine is not picking up laser at all. I passed 2 cops in the last week with the gun in hand standing outside their cars pointing right at me...and no alert at all! WTF?? I bought it used but it's got the laser alert on it.

I've got a Phantom radar/laser scrambler/jammer that I don't have a use for anymore if someone's interested. How it works is that when the officer shoots his laser/radar gun at you, the Phantom is supposed to block the signal, but if it does get through, the Phantom should intercept, and rebroadcast it scrambled as an obviously unreal number(IE, 10mph, or 200mph, or unreadable). I've used it for a while now, and had it go of plenty of times, but I've never gotten a ticket with it. If you do get a ticket, the company claims they will pay for it. It's in absolute mint condition, and comes with original box/instructions.

I paid $450, the first $200 takes it. Or, I might consider a trade for a V1. I've always wanted to try one out.

Some body enlighten me about this. What makes my V1 go off behind new beetles and other cars? I thought it was the back-up warning system. Does that work using radar?

Your laser warning goes off because of the LED brake lights and in some cars regular tail lights.

It is precisely this reason that I no longer use my V1 in the city. I've relegated it to highway use only.

Do you know if the back-up warning system uses radar? Also, the newer "smart" cruise control that adjust to a leading car that they are putting in the big Lexus (and I suppose other high end sedans), does it use radar?

Not sure about the back-up systems. I know for sure the Lexus system is laser guided cruise control. I'm thinking the laser controlled cruise will only be an issue if they are directly behind you. If they are travelling in the opposite direction it shouldn't be a problem as I think the laser width is quite narrow.
