V10 engine and BMW ...

    Did you guys read on www.f1-live.com that BMW are pushing to keep the v10 engine?, as they see it as somehow technically interesting.

    This surely has to do with the new M3 or 5 that is to have a v10 engine ... and sucks IMO that marketing cr@p is getting even more in to the way of the sport.

    I could not care less what number of cylinders they use, try 7 ... this enforcing a certain numbe is ruining F1!

    Thoughts?

    I had an idea about a completely new engine formula.

    Every car gets 50-60 gallons of fuel per race. Any engine size is legal. Car has to run then entire race and be running on engine power at the end of the race to win. Everything else is free: displacement -- free, Turbine -- why not, Sterling engine -- OK, Fuel cell -- sure, means to connect engine power to road surface -- free.

    This would send them all back to the drawing boards, and result in some amazing new technologies.

    That is a radical idea, but I think it may take a long time to get some race pace out of the cars ... :D

    It would cause interesting races due to strategy, ie. big engine to go out hard and get a break and then back off and run super lean until the end, OR run quick pace in efficient smaller engine and catch them near the end ...

    I must say that I am starting to loose interest fast in F1 and motor racing in general. Not enough sport and too many pretend drivers ... and rules made to suit those that don't understand motorracing and see it as some sort of show.

    I'm getting so tired of reading stupid ideas about how to spice up the F1 show that I might just turn it off altogether and limit my motorsport interest in my OWN racing ... ie. build another car and atleast participate in club racing where I can atleast RACE hard and focus on the sport ... and yep I do not give a stuff if the race is not televised and I do not get a bunch of money, infact I do not even care if nobody is in the stands ... but would like a few cars to race against ;)

    It wasn't until I started to do high performance driving events, that I saw how bad the camera work on any kinds of racing really is. It seems to me that the camera is moved from one car to another, or one camera to another JUST WHEN you want to see how the rear end responds to that bump under power on an off camber turn with a wall 2" away..

    They setup the cameras for straights and braking, and aren't positioned to see the slides and driving capabilities of the drivers. This is camera work for thoes who don't know how to drive. I want camera work that shows the lurid slides and the silly grin on the drivers face after he survives "that one".

    The (THE) most impressive driving event I saw in the last 10 years was when Tracy looped his car from the lead in ?Canada? last year, drove into the run off area backwards, and re-entered the race still in the lead. How many drivers would have the presence of mind to LOOK in the rearview mirrors in the middle of a spin and aim the car at a safe spot? Yes, it was a stupid piece of driving that caused the event (typical Tracy), but it was a truely brilliant piece of driving to avoid distroying the car.
