Does any know if they will be making a V12 or V10? V-8 seems a little entry class for Ferrari..
Already been done... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=289800&highlight=clapton If you don't find an 8 cyl Ferrari desirable... they do make 12's.
It's called a 599 Considering the Italia and California are the entry level Ferraris, 8 cylinders are just fine. Especially when they put out 560 HP.
Pretty sure they won't be making a production V12 458 Italia, but it would be nice to have a return of the normal production V12 mid-engine Ferrari.
Seriously, why? Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit V12 guy. But, I don't see the value with the 458. Does it not have enough torque for you?
They have been making 8s for years. Doesn't seem to stop anyone from buying them and as stated, they do make V12s.
Yes V8s are very "entry level" and they are put in "entry level" cars such as the 288GTO and F40, or the F248-F150 series of cars. Those are all "entry level" Ferraris.
If it were not for the V8's starting with the 308, there probably wouldn't be a Ferrari company. They are 80-90% of the production and profit base which allows them to make the V12's.
Doesn't Eric Clapton own the only V12 458 ever made? With all the R&D that went into making that happen (at no additional expense to Ferrari no doubt) it's certainly possible. Whether it's really necessary is a whole different story.
Wanting and having are two different things. http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/eric-clapton-wants-a-v12-ferrari-458-italia-ar92796.html
you can only do so much with a V-8. And Ferrari has done it beautifully with the 458. The problem is, Lamborginis from a few years ago, (V-10) have more than 560hp. So really, a 2011 $300,000 V8 Ferrari making 562hp is well.... entry level in our day and age, sorry guys, I'm forced to agree with Eric Clapton, it needs a V12 or at LEAST a V10 to bring it up into the hyper-exotic range again. V8's are for Chevy trucks, I'll wait for the upgrade before I purchase... Image Unavailable, Please Login
do you realize what F1 and Indycars run on? It's about doing more with less, reducing weight, and complexity. you want a v12. Pony Up the dough.
My understanding as of about 3 months ago was that the project was still in the "planning" stage. This could have changed by now.
I was at the ferrari dealer in Orlando Florida and he gave me details on what Mike said. It is not a 458 but a different model than the 458 or 599. He lokingly called it a station wagon. It has a lift back but is not a station wagon but it is stunning. 635 hp if I remember correctly. He told me my 458 would still be the better car. What a great car Lee
I hear him. V8 is just too low rent these days. If it's not a W16 pushing 1000hp I'm not even interested.
a) Ferrari is on record as wanting to stay with a V12 when the ceries went to V10s and again when the series went to V8s. b) How does on pony up the dough for a new Ferrari mid-engined V12?
Yep they are doing more with less. I think the new engines are limited to 18,000 rpms. The cars were getting too fast. Indy had the same problem. This kind of development is likely what led to these new waves of high rev V8's again.. special projects, Ferrari takes strange requests.
we're already "ponying up" for this car, at least give us a V10 or V12, I can't WAIT to see what this car will be capable of when Eric Clapton finally gets it. I'm sure the rev limit will be higher than 10,000. If anyone can do it, Ferrari can.
