I'm curious as to the weight of this engine vs the stock F355 Tipo 129 or a Ferrari 12...

    Thoughts?

Waste of money in my opinion. Would've been better spent building a factory caliber twin turbo build for the tipo.

    Based on a BMW M73 V12:

    (From: Engine FAQ - Bimmerforums.com ):

    ENGINE SPEC: M73 (STANDARD)

    V12 SOHC 24V Single VANOS. 1995-2001. Pre 98 engines were non-VANOS.
    150kg 330lbs
    5.4L (326bhp)

TBH, I'd have thought the engine would have been heavier than that, even with it being an alloy block and head - Looks like BMW did a good job of getting the excess weight out of it!

However, as far as I'm concerned, without a Ferrari engine, this car is no better than a fiero kit car now! :(

As the saying goes: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!"

Insane... I've seen the 512tr engine in the 355 before but this is new. The amount of $$$ and effort??? He could have bought another 355. Such waste for less hp.

There are enough modern v12 Ferrari engines out there now for sale, some even cheaper than a replacement 355 unit such as ones from a 575 or 612. For not a lot more you could even have a 599 or FF no need to be slotting a BMW lump in there.

Well, since you asked, if you have the time and money I say at least keep it Ferrari powered.

The original engine plus turbos would have made more power than this low rpm SOHC 2 valve lump.

Also, if the cams in that engine are stock and it retains it's original 6000rpm redline it now has a top speed of 125mph with the F355 gearbox.
