I wonder if we'll notice a change in the engine sound when the new V8's are introduced? I also wonder how long ot will take for them to be as fast as the V10s? Not long I imagine.

I think it'll be just as loud, maybe louder. They're increasing the revs to 21,000 to 22,000 RPM

I asked this question to Jean Todt when I met him in October in Los Angeles. With a little a smirk, he said no the sound will not change.

With the rule for v8's, no longer will we have to suffer the abuse from V12 owners that "real" ferraris have 12 cylinders!

    Never drive more than 8!

I would imagine the sound will be even more high pitched than the 12 and the 10. Still not crazy about this limited on engine configuration rule, didn't like it when FIA imposed it on the V-10, still don't like it with this new V-8 rule.

I was just reading an article about the new V8 engines in Autosport magazine. I guess Honda was the first one to test the new V8 in last years car with 2005 spec aero package. The car was some 4 1/2 seconds slower from this year car. Honda is predicting with next year chassis and the new motor, the cars should be as fast as this year. The reason is less displacement, means lighter and smaller, which means lower center of gravity. In additon even though they are anticipated a horse power drop from 900 to 700, they are saying some of the horse power loss can be made up with increased engine revs to 20-22,000 rpms.

Its hard to comprehend 22,000 rpm, let alone the current 18k.
Here is some math. Check my numbers.

22k rpm is 366 rp second. Which means each piston fires 45 times every second? That seems crazy. Can you count to 45 in one second? I cant.

Anyway, my math might be way off, but none the less, 22k is unfathomable.
