Im just wondering, who has ever been in a v8 supercar? anyone on here?
Yeah i got strapped in the (makeshift) passenger seat of one a few years back for a "One World" Sports bar event, tied along with VB. Damien "Ice Man" White (who is currently dominating the Brute Ute Series) was driving. Pretty cool. I think the actual car was a VT model. They sure strap you down tight in those seats, and at the end of the Oran Park straight, my whole body would of been a good 5 inches out of the seat.... Not to mention that fkn hot exhaust pipe that was rubbing against my leg on every left hander...... All in all a good experience. If you can get over the noise, vibration, forces and the heat....
I don't think I'd trade my rides I've had in a F50, Challenge Straddle ( ), Murcielago, Gallardo, Diablo, GT2 etc etc. for a lap in a V8 Supercar.
coming from someone who loved a HSV... i'm sure it'd be fun enough, but yeah i'd rather a formula vee or something, and definitely wouldn't trade the rides i've had. look at the top-speed numbers you get in your average F1GP, then look at the speeds we've been at on public roads... wtf
Who'd want to, when a 360C out brakes a V8 supercar by 80M at the AGP for example....yes 80M later braking at Turn1. 360GT can lap pretty much as fast as a V8, with 200 BHP less. Most bikes accelerate better than a V8, and a 360 either C or GT generates more cornering and braking forces than a V8.
V8 supercars are converted from 4 door sedans, front engine, live axles, push rod v8, technologies that is as good as a power pole. and compared to a 360 race car which is built to be a race car, mid engine layout, 6 speed transaxle, lighter and F1 inspired technology. it cost half a mil, while the v8 super car is 200k to build. most bikes are faster than anything. R1 is faster than a mclaren. two very different race cars, for different category, can't be compared in the same way.
Not quite right, 360 GT and C is more a road car than you think, and certainly a greater % of road car components than in a V8 wobblecab.
Allan did a banzai 1.36.7 in a 360C, and faster in 360GT with maximum downforce, and he hasn't had a real banzai lap there yet. Allan also did a 1.25.3 at Winton in a 360C... now that takes some beating...
Yes, and PI is a power circuit, so the 200BHP advantage helps them... give a 360 C another 200 BHP and it'd go sub 1.30
Vic Ferrari owner Dean Savage is a reasonably fast driver, and he has done the same lap times in his 360C as in his V8 super car. And a Ferrari costs about 20% of the running costs of a V8 by the way....
I've often wondered which would be quicker: a V8 Supercar, a Ferrari 360CH or GT, or a GT3 Cup car. According to Phil, Allan did a 1:25.3 in a 360CH (very impressive IMO!) Fastest lap time at Winton for a V8 Supercar that I could find was a 1:23.26 by Marcos Ambrose in 2003. This qualifying laptime is available here: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?25/05/2003.WIN.Q9 Fastest time (also qualifying) for GT3 Carrera Cup from the same meeting was 1:26.05, available here: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?25/05/2003.WIN.Q4 Would the newer V8 Supercars and GT3 Cup cars be any quicker than they were in 2003? I'd assume so. Anyone know? EDIT: just did some more research and I've discovered that the V8 Supercars last raced at Winton in 2004. I had a look at the qualifying times for this meeting, and unfortunately the track was wet, so the times are not representative. FWIW, they were circa 1:38s.
If Alan had a no holds barred go in my 360 N-GT on fresh tyres/right set up, he would go way under 1.35 at the Island. If I can wobble around easily and safely at 1.40 odd, Alan could easily better that by 5 secs IMO.
Best we find out then.... if that didn't help sell it, I don't know what would yes, I reckon a 1.32 is possible, maybe less, i thought only a 1.27 was possible in the 360C at Winton... that lap still sticks in my mind, he pulled it from god knows where.
Has everyone forgotten that a V8 has a control tyre? Not only that, but it also has a LIMITED number of tyres for the weekend. The reason why V8s are sprung so (relatively) softly is to be gentle with tyre wear, not for the optimal lap time. Also, nothing against Allan, of course, but the 360C he did the hot laps in was not a standard a 360c
True, but a stock std 360C with only a few changes made can do those times Allan did. lets see someone change the shocks and a few little goodies on a std XR8 Falcon and have it lapping in the 30's..... what's your point. Even a totally stock 360C can go sub 1.40 with relative ease... oh hang on, you're the guy that says F40 is faster than an F50!! Despite your recent experience to the contrary....
why are you talking rubbish again? The F40 didn't get a dry run at the track, and was not pushed at all at the hillclimb. You're such a moron. Why do you use whatever rubbish you can get your hands on to try and prove you're right? all it does is prove you're stupid. I said what would have to happen for me to concede that an F50 is faster than an F40...and so far, it's not even close.
A couple of seconds I think; but I would have to check. Remember that Joe is a very experienced racer and it is his home track. My lifetime Barbagello lap total runs to maybe 8 laps? It would have to be the car 'cause it sure isn't me!
