    any idea why they chose the short course? especially since V8s are hilarious to watch on "long fast straights into tight corners" tracks. (ie backstretch into T11)

    No idea. I doubt it is for staffing or attendance purposes. Grand Am brought less than 25K in attendance, yet, they still used the full track. Maybe... just something different?

    Probably because V8 super cars make for entertaining racing - by shortening the track, you bring the cars past the stands more often for the same race distance.
