I'm wondering, what are the logistics of taking a 4.3 vantage to 100k? I'm looking for a fun car I can realistically put some miles on. If a 997 911 would be a much safer bet I would go that route.

Dave I am not sure what you are asking but let me try to answer with my limited experience.

I had a 2010 V8 Aston for a very short time. I suspect under 2500 miles. I did not have any trouble with the car during that time period. it was the 425hp V8 convertible, manual.

English cars can be troublesome. I had a Lotus Elise sport for a few years with no problems but I had three freinds that had gauled cams. The oil drip holes where drilled in the wrong place. I sold my car.

I then Bought a Lotus Evora S, on the third month of ownership it would not start, just dead. The dealer woud not help me. I think they were having trouble getting warrenty payment. I dumped the car. It was a great drive fun as could be.

My Current mclaren a 12C has been perfect. The dealer has also been first class and I love the car.

I think you may be better off with a 911. I have owned three and they have been stellar to drive and own.

I also like the Audi R8. Mine is a V10. A great driving car but also practical.

BMW I am told has electrical problems in the 4 year or so. Can be fixed by most shops just a hassle. I pnly kept my 2013 M3 for a few months so I have limited experience with reliability. I had no problems in that short time.

You may want to look at a vette. They are becoming world class driving cars. The newer the better but I would not buy older than 2008. They have always been reliable but they are not great handling cars untill the later years. THE 09 AND '10 zr1 cars are just stunning performance. My 2009 is one of the best cars I have owned, a rear drivers car.

Good luck what ever you end up with.

Thanks Lee. Evora was actually at the top of my list but I came across your older post on the problem, and read of everyone else's experience with the evora. I really liked that car too! It was a bummer. Sounds like the vantage didn't do much for you. But then again I wouldn't give it much attention either, if I had all the other cars. What I meant by realistically put 100k miles on, is in terms of reliability, marginal comfort, and expense of maintenance and depreciation. I would buy a 430, the current base model prices are hard to ignore. But I couldn't afford the $60k depreciation in 5 years if I put 75-100k miles on one. Not to mention the maintenance.

I had a vantage for a couple of years and I loved it-totally reliable, fun to drive, not very common (which I like) and sounded fantastic

i currently have a 2008 vantage, these cars go thru clutches rather easily, even in 6 speed manuals, so yeah you can put 100 k on it in style and drive a really cool car everyday, but just budget about 3-4 clutch replaecements in to it and you will be fine. And yes the car sounds AMAZING , took mine out today for a spin today and it was glorious!!!

I put 43000 miles on my 4.3 vantage with the first clutch at 38k miles. They are super reliable cars.
I had the AM power upgrade and sport cats. The car was a blast and good DD.

It took me about 6 months to decide and research which exotic car I wanted and I couldn't be happier with my Vantage. I've just put in close to 3,000 miles on my Vantage since January. I never had problems with it. I purchased it through an AM dealer with extended warranty for peace of mind. I haven't seen any with 100k miles though....

How do the R8 and Evora drive? I'm intrigued..... The Vantage is a much different feel than a 911 in comparison... When I have a little more time, I wouldn't mind going to test drive the Audi and Lotus.

The base Evora does not have much power. You have to work the high revs to get any power at all. In my mind that makes it fun. I had the Evora S ehich is more power. They handle the best of any car I have tried. The Lotus Elise Sport I owned may be more fun, but the Evora is a more modern chasis.

My Evora would not turn over in my third month of ownership. The dealer would not even help me at all. I was on my own. I sold my Aston Martin that I bought from them, in the same time period. I avoid that dealer. I think Lotus was changing ownership to a company in India during that time frame.

My Audi R8 V10 has been perfect. The handling is wonderful and the power intoxicating. I think the Audi is a safer car to buy and own. It is a blast to drive and you get more technology with more car.

I agree with you on the Vantage it is a pleasant car to drive and looks classy but I like the 911 better to drive. I have owned 3 911's so far. My Vantage gave me little trouble and Porsche is very good at taking care of its owners. Most of my 911's have been perfect. I had one friday afternoon built car. The dealer was very responsive to my problem I bought 3 more cars from them so far. FYI Ferrari has been good to me also over the three I have owned.

    Good Luck whatever you buy

    Best

Thank you for the informative review. I currently have a Vantage which I enjoy immensely :) I am curious to start learning about the other exotics though as I never know when I may make an addition or change it. I am curious to know which dealer you were not happy with. My car came from an AM dealer in California but I am in Florida as you are. If you'd like to share it on the thread or PM me about the experience, that would be great!

    Thanks again.

Still eyeing vantages. Am I crazy or do they have excellent resale values? 09's are selling for 40k less than new cars... how is that possible? 8k a year depreciation for an exotic? And Aston Martin no less, who have a terrible reputation for resale. Makes me want to buy a new one, but I couldn't afford the up front cost.

My close friend took his Vantage V8 to ~85000 with no major problems. I drove that car often myself and it was just as tight at 85000 as new.
