Haley asked me to update everyone on this and FYI - the registration is not such that people wouldn't be allowed in after noon - but we do want to try to not have too many cars moving through once the Vets are out there. Many are wheelchair bound so for safety we are hoping most cars will be parked by the time they are out there. "Registration" for this is just filling out a form witha pretty standard release and contact info (for thank you letters to go out) and picking up a little packet and sign to tell the vets what your car is Chelle Here's what Haley asked me to post: Hi everyone =o) Update time!! Saturday, July 16, 2005 Registration from 11a-Noon. The Veterans will start to come out about Noon-ish when they finish lunch, and the show ends about 3pm. A bit later start time this year, as it is a priority to make sure the Vets do not miss their meal. The 1921 Stutz Fire Engine is set to appear again, the car show is the priority assignment that day for the Fire Stations Watch Commander beautiful machine all original! The President of the Chicagoland Replicar Association will bring his 52 MGTD Dutchess and has put the VA show in the clubs newsletter and passed out flyers at their annual brunch/yearly meeting. One member has a 39 Lincoln Zephyr - chopped, lowered, modified - insane! She will bring if not sold by then. One trophy winner last year is from this club; he brought a 39 Ford conv. He has many different toys, aught to bring another neat one!. The Kenosha Car Club will be there again and with more cars as they enjoyed last year. I talked with the coordinators of Scoop the Loop, they will put flyers for the VA show in each goodie bag given to the registered drivers. They paraded into the VA last year, mostly hotrods from the 30s and 40s, some with matching trailers, great group! Im trying to find an old police car or Paddy Wagon, but no luck yet. If anyone has a contact, please let me know. I have a contact for a Model A/T club, some will be at an out of town event, but working on getting the ones not going on that road trip to go to the VA show. And I am working on a few Makes that missed last year an older Harley, Indian, Mercedes, Jag, Porsche, and of course, and any Lotus!, all just great looking cars in their own ways. I would love to see a 300SL Gullwing, a 914, an e-type jag, and an Espirit or Elise. (I saw and read about the Elise and fell in love with it from day one.) I contacted a few dealers including Volo Auto Museum and a few others with very interesting vehicles, some stated they will be there. I will keep those secret and if all goes well, a few wild or famous rides will be there. No vendors, we cant charge Vets for goodies, but we supply snacks and refreshments to EVERYONE for free. I am looking on getting a place to donate some hot dogs n fixings, but that is proving to be a bit tough I have the cooks, but no dogs I am working on it, but nothing yet. Lastly, Im trying to contact a few local sports figures and celebs, no luck here either. I have a few in mind, but if anyone knows someone, they are most welcome to come and visit with the vets. Again, this is a private show for Veterans, employees and the Navy Corpsman who train here, so it will be a quiet and safe setting for people and cars. Some folks have given ideas and they are great! A few asked about gifts or donations, but I want to make sure everyone knows that is NOT mandatory! It is a 100% free car show, if people want to as a group or individually, they may, but absolutely not required. I apologize for my long ramble but this is something I truly believe in as these are our nations true Heros. The Director and his leadership staff are delighted Im working on this years already. So on behalf of the Vets and staff here at the VA, Thank you to all who came last year, you helped make some Vets smile and show some pep, which made a few visiting spouses and family members completely overwhelmed with joy and tears that their loved ones still have the spark inside of them! I look forward to seeing you again and meeting even more of you this year! Semper Fi, Haley
Chelle, Hailey, a few comments: - FOC Midwest supports this event and it will officially count against our Gumball 2005 trophy! We have the event already in our calendar online and in Pilota. - Since the President of the Chicagoland Replicar Association will be there, I just might have to bring that other car of mine...You just gave me a deadline. - I would love to see Dragula or the Wienermobile at this one . Frank? - Haley, if you have some sort of "official" flier, that'd be great for me to pass on to my neighbour Minnie Minoso, ex White Sox star. And finally: I have ebayed together my own former Swiss Army uniform to be dressed appropriately for the occasion. And to give you guys a good laugh.
Kewl Andreas.. Haley is going to bring the flyers she has with her at the karting event will see ya then! Chelle
Oh yeah,I'll be there again. It was a great show last Year. And,just to see the smiles on those guys' faces made the whole day for me. I was thinking of bringing along a few Model Cars for the Vets to build on their Spare Time...which,I bet, they have a lot of.... Probably Snap togethers. But,maybe some Regular ones. (If you do,Bring the BLUE Tube Testors 'Non-Toxic' Glue)Then, they can have their own Model Car Show. Pass the time. Whatever. The Younger guys liked the Muscle Cars and Exotics. But,there were Alot of "Old Timers" that loved those old 30's,40's,and 50's cars. (Might be best to stay away from the Tanks,Warplanes,etc....) Maybe if everyone brought along some Model Cars for the Vets, that would be Cool....? We will be there, but, unfortunately, the only Uniform that I ever wore was my Boy Scout Uniform....Don't think I'll ever be squeezing into that....
You can count me in. I can bring either my 308 (probably have many already), a show-quality 914 (nice weather only) or a show quality 1990 Bentley Turbo R, whichever you think would be most popular.... So, now the real questions - where is it, and does Frank really have control of the Wienermobile?
Whatchutalkin'bout,Willis...?... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You know. That is a Funny Car....But,I kind of feel bad for razzin' the guy so much. As funny as it is,It is also a rolling piece of Art...(well,until it rolls over some RailRoad Tracks or Something, and some Huge Chunks fall off...).Ah,Ah,Ahhhh-here I go again..... So,If he steps up sometime here on Fchat. I will personally buy him an F.O.C. Membership...an Olive Branch of sorts..... Lets just take a little stroll down Memory Lane, shall we.... Your other car would be great! And the folks in the "CRA" are wonderful folks, I am sure they all would love to see it as well. I did not notice at first that Dragula was a rollin' coffin, that is a hoot!, but one of our more fiesty Veterans might try and carjack it for a roadtrip to the afterworld! If possible, I think if i can get the Weinermobile, it might bring more smiles from the Vets. And a Swiss uniform would be kinda neat, and would definately start conversations, but it could very well be a hot day, so bring cooler clothes if it is hot and humid that day. I will get nice Marine Corps tops for my whole family going to the show, we are all Leathernecks, but dont think my Dad will be there. But my Mom and Brother will be and she will show her new car too! I already pick on her about NASCAR and her endlessly going around in circles, but she is such the cute "little old lady" in a "Dale Earnhart INTIMIDATOR" Supercharged Monte Carlo Thank You! We will have a few 308's there, so if it is a nice day, maybe the 914 or the Bentley?...Last year, one of oldest Veterans fell in love with Skip's Roller, she is such a cute gal. And if you email me your addy, I will send you a few registrations with maps to the VA hospital on the back. It is not very often I actually cry from laughing so hard! I just dont feel even remotely bad of how the GTO used to look now after seeing those pics. And that "shield"?...that is the funniest picture of them all, that has to be the most sickly prancing horse of all time...it should have been "put down" a long time ago!
Well Hello there,Haley! And Welcome to FChat! Certainly a nice addition.... And,glad that my Bondo-Ferrari-ero Pix made you laugh....what I went through to get those shots....well worth it! Looking forward to seeing You and Chelle joining us on some Drives this Year. And,also looking forward to the VA Car Show....
Thank you Frank! I am looking forward to a fun year, last year was about horrid for my family and I, time to get back to being happy and enjoying life anf Ferrari's again. Have a safe trip.
Haley- Welcome to 'Chat', glad you joined up. I like the moniker you're using too! I'll be at the show, but I hope to be eatin' Chili with you and Chelle long before that! Last time, the spaghetti and sauce was great!!! Skip P.S. To those of you who don't know Haley and Chelle, these are two of the nicest women you'll ever meet. Make sure you say 'Hi' at the next event!
Actually it will be the official Summer light version of the Sunday uniform. That is, no jacket and thin material. All real, not made up at all. And even "period correct" for my car as I was wearing these clothes in the eighties. BTW: The official uniform has changed since I left the club, so what I'll be wearing is no longer a uniform, but now a costume, so I'm safe from a legal perspective.
I am looking forward to this. The girls put on quite a show and the vets were some of the most kind people and has some nice compliments and questions... Are there going to be any more Ferrari's added to the list? Did Frank get the Oscar Mayer ride to say yes? Vince, did you get a form? Is DaveB going to show and with what car? If this is a micro of last year, it will be great. RocketBoy
Rocketboy, I am glad you are looking forward to this, me too. I can't wait! Mini-update time... I have contacted new people and a few more car clubs, may have a few of them there, actually got a call the other night from California of all places. I sent out an official letter to Oscar Mayer for an invite, we shall see. I also sent out letters to other companies in the areas, for product donations to give to everyone, and with a tiny bit of money from Community Affairs, I will be able to give everyone a nice little thank you bag with goodies. Inside will also be a personal little touch that I made for everyone. This year, It is almost set in stone, still finishing the final part, but I think we will have the free hot dogs this year, as well as snacks and refreshments too. My Brother will be the cook, and my Mom too, when she is not showing her car Added treat...fresh popcorn! And, I almost have the final plans worked out on this one, after the show and the Director saying a few words, we will have a parade in front of the main buildings where we have in-patients living. Those that could not come out, be it Veteran's or employees can see and hear all the cars in their glory. I figure the Director can be the Grand Marshal in the 1921 Fire Truck, and then we can have the oldest Veteran honored in riding in the classiest car showing that day, then the youngest Veteran can be next in his favorite, then the Leadership Staff, then the rest of the TOYS! I kinda gave away a few secrets for the show, but I am bubbling over about it, I can't help it. But I still have a few things left I am working on as treats. Many people are asking if they need to bring anything , or can give money, I am making sure I tell everyone it is not required or asked for. Completely up to the individual or the club. By no means required or asked for in any way shape or form. A few more Ferrari gents here have emailed and asked questions, hope I get to meet more, or most of you July 16th. I know medical center staff, and especially our nations Heroes enjoy this event and can't wait. Thanks bunches Semper Fi Haley
FREEBIES.......I'LL BE THERE!!!!! I may have seen your Mom this morning; she's driving #3, isn't she?
Freebies are always good Yep, that is her car....all black one instead of the one with a silver edging at the bottom. I think it is neat, little blonde lady who just retired...went and bought herself the Intimidator SS
Well,I plan on bringing some Car Models for the Vets,so that they have something to do tro pass the time. That would be cool if more do that so many Vets can have one. As far as the Wienermobile,(Spelled it correctly this time,Andreas,.... ) Show them these pix. That may help. I have been scouting the Location where it usually Parks when it's here, but haven't seen it yet....But,you never know!.... Frank, that is really sweet, thank you. I will make sure we have a place to put them when you get to the hospital. That wienermobile is just crazy! I saw the inside pics of it at the Oscar Mayer webite, they went all out on it. I think the Vets would get a charge out of it. They said that thing can go 90 MPH!...You know, I picture some stoners cruizin along 94 and a huge hotdog buzzes past them doing 90...the reaction and story telling session afterward would be priceless. I hope they accept my invite
LOL! Yes,Cheech Marin was just in Town. He has some Paintings showcasing some of his Chicano Artwork at the Mexican Fine Arts Center in Chicago. Having him Piloting the Wienermobile? Now THAT would be Cool!!!...
