Hi..Colorado F-chatters..... I live in South Florida and I am wanting to take the wife on a little 3-4 day extended weekend to Vail... I lived in Eagle-vail for a year or two, from 2004-05...i am familiar with the hotels there "by name" & i know the area ...i just have not been inside them...just looking for some suggestions...preferably as close to the shops as possible. Thanks....
I've stayed at the Lodge at Vail more times than I can count: http://lodgeatvail.rockresorts.com/ Many, many options on room type, all very nice, and centrally located in Vail.
Stay in Aspen. More great restaurants and more shopping. And you don't have to listen to the trucks on I-70 24/7. Little Nell, St. Regis are upscale. Enjoy. (remember: Vail is a four letter word.)
I second the Lodge at Vail, but I'll not recommend any of the three restaurants in it (they all share a single kitchen/staff who are over worked and not very talented to begin with). The Plaza isn't exactly centralized, but they have some bomber deals at the moment and the whole complex is only a couple years old. The Austria Haus and Mountain Haus are nice since both are right on Gore Creek, but I've never been a big fan of the Mountain Haus for some reason. The Tivoli is wonderful, and has a large secure underground garage if you wanted to bring a toy with you.
Not sure if you are set on Vail proper, but the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek is quite nice if you're up for a little change of pace from "traditional" Vail. Beaver Creek shopping is better than it was a few years ago...
I'm at the Ritz in Beaver Creek right now and you would be hard pressed to find a better EXPERIENCE! I'm a club member here if I can help you in any way simply let me know.
The Ritz in Beaver Creek is great with a terrific staff and good restaurants but you're going to be in a car if you want to do anything other than the Ritz. The Hyatt in Beaver Creek is solid and lets you walk around to some other places other than just that property. I like the Sonnenalp in Vail. Just make sure you get a room facing South (away from the highway) on the rooms in Vail. The I-70 roar will keep you from opening your windows at night.
While I realize your bad-mouthing of Vail is in gest, it does get old. I'm pleased that you're happy with Aspen, but you don't really need to take every opportunity to go on the offensive. Vail has quite a bit to offer, but I have no intention of being drawn into a "we're-better-than-you" argument. Just tired of it, really. I was in Aspen this week, and it offers a good experience, too. No need to insult Vail (or its residents), though. Anyway, to the OP, I'm a full-time Vail resident. So, there are MANY suggestions. In the village, which is likely where you want to be, there are plenty of options. In the Village, The Sonnenalp, The Lodge, Pepi's Gramshammer, The Sitzmark and Vail Plaza Hotel are all good. Slightly different, each of them. If you want specific thoughts, PM me. Lionshead has the Marriott. That's about it, and it's on the FAR end of Lionshead. Not central. Beaver Creek has some options, but BC is more "family-friendly". Also, more vertical and you feel like you're in a canyon. BTW, Lionshead is "emulating" BC with the new Arrabelle. Kind of suffocates me when I'm there. Cordillera is FAR down valley. But, if you're big on golf and not so big on being in the Village, that may be satisfactory. It really depends on what you want to do. Rafting? Bravo! performances. Mountain biking. Fishing. Sporting Clays. Golfing. Road biking. Etc. It all influences and depends. CW
I think you meant "jest" as in jestor. And yes, I was kidding. Main Entry: gest !jest Pronunciation: \ ˈjest \ Function: noun Etymology: Middle English geste - More at - jest Date: 13th century Results 1. 1 a tale of adventures especially a romance in verse 2. 2 adventure exploit BTW The GENTLEMEN of Aspen rigby team are going to the national finals again this year (we won the national championsip last year). Life is good. I stayed at the Lodge at Vail in 1963 when it first opened and it was literally the only place to stay in Vail. I have skied the back bowls when there was powder up to my belly button and was literally so exhausted at the end of the day I went to bed the minute I got off the slopes. Best ski day I ever had. Pax Vobiscum
