I've looked through archives and found that a V-1 can be hard wired. I need clarification from the better informed. Please help out with the following:

    On my 355 spider...

I will hard wire to the interior dome light at the top of the windshield. Power and ground are there?

I will use a 4 inch or 6 inch short phone cord for wiring (available from radio shack) which colors are + and - ?

You had to cut one end from the phone cord..what do you do with the other 2 colored wires since there are 4 in the phone cord?

Is there room in the dome light to fit a tandem connector for ground (-) and hot (+) ?

All info would be great...I want to wire it in before Concorso in 10 days.

    Michael,

I checked out this link..I still have questions:

Ok so only use the 2 middle wires. Which one is + and -?

Since you did this can you shed light on this in more detail. The mounting I see is straight forward.

How did you tap into the overhead light? What connector did you use for + and - connections?

    Mario,

I tapped in using the crimp connector provided witht he detector. I'm sure you can get the same at Radioshack or other electronic/electric store. For my unit I tapped into the power coming for the light that goes to the switch, one of those is on a timer remember.

I didn't have to cut any phone cable as it plugged right in to the power unit they provide. This power unit is what is spliced in and the phone cord hooks into that. there was a ground screw that I used to ground the power unit. Not sure how it is on the spider.

Mario when you drop the light down you will see 3 wire connections. 1 is the ground 1 is constant power 1 is power when doors are open. The ground should be obvious, it's the connecter wired to the light frame. You can pull the connector off and there is a small hole, push your wire into the hole and push the connector back on, that will be fine to hold the wire in place. I don't remember which is the consatnt power but a simple test light should anwser that. I don't remeber which color goes to the ground either, but if you really can't figure it out, let me know and I will drop my light down again and take a look.

Here Mario (had to get out kids were driving me nuts) the white wire is the ground, red goes to constant power. Don't forget you have to manually turn off the V-1 when you get out, it won't power off with the key. More important don't forget to turn it on! :)

Did you use a phone wire? My phone wire has red and green as the middle wires. Do you know which one is power for the detector? Thanks

Just finished installing Valentine V-1 in my 2000 360, REAL EASY.

Cut and strip the GREY which is Pos and the black Neg.

Loosen the lite to slip the 6' v-1 cord through. The red wire is pos on the lite just remove the little black sleave (needle nose plyers) place the grey in the red and the black in the black replace the sleave.

1/2 hour and you are done.
