Anyone have their V1 "installed" in the car.
I was going to buy some new suction cups, and saw this part:

    Direct-Wire Power Adapter
    Item 20305
Same as the Adapter included with the V1; For permanent installation that draws power directly from vehicle's electrical system instead of the lighter socket. Also includes Fuse (Item 20303) and Wiring harness connector (Item 20310).

Would be nice, especially not having to have the wire dangling all the time.
    Easy?
I would install it in my 308, and in my TT coupe.

very easy and very nice to have. The hardwired cord is flat and like a phone cord. it was easy to run in between trim pieces without removing them but that may depend on the car.

I've had the hard wired kit installed on all of my regular drivers and I rotate a bunch of V1's between them. I have them all installed above the rearview mirror where the detector is almost invisible, especially without a coiled cord hanging down to the power socket. There is a good Audio shop in Scottsdale (Signature Audio) that does it for around $75 or an hour's labor. It free up the lighter socket for things like a TomTom GPS in the Ferraris or a G-meter for track days and it doesn't advertise the detector when driving around.

are they hard to install in a newer car?
it is essentially a parasite on an existing line?
anyone have it installed on an Audi?

I have all of my cars hardwired. I had a rear view mirror out of a lambo with the display built into it in one of my old cars, got in on ebay for around $100 i think.

If your car has a light on or near the rear view mirror, a local installer can tap in to that. It worked fine on a Ford GT, although it isn't switch driven, and you have to remember to turn the detector off.

I hard-wired my power supply in my Jetta. Cord comes out where the dash and windshield meet at the bottom. For my other cars I simply use the cig. lighter. All vehicles have the suction cup mounts.

I did use the concealed display in my Jetta for a while but then said screw it, who cares if it gets seen while I'm driving. BTW, for those who don't know, you still need to use the V1 for detection, it's just that the visual display is relocated, thus the V1 unit itself doesn't light up while the concealed display is hooked up.

I have V1's hardwired into my MR2, Tundra, my 308 and my wife's Pathfinder.

You can use regular phone wire instead of buying the power adapter. Look for a cord with just two wires instead of 4. If all you can find is a 4 wire connector, the V1 uses the middle two connectors. Be prepared to experiment with polarity, don't worry it doesn't fry the V1 if you hook it up backwards for a second or two.

Depends on the car, if you wire it to a switched power, then it will not draw when you shut off the car. If you need help with your Audi, I suggest going to an Audi forum, and I guarantee you will find many threads on hardwiring in your model. That is what I did when I wanted to hard wire my V1 in my BMW 540. Found several threads and even a few websites with very complete tutorials on the installation process.

    Google is your friend! ;)
