any place in Houston that does the V1 in the rear view mirror? i live here in san antonio but no one here has worked on these before. the V1 etched in my mirror needs adjusting. thanks
its hardwired but the display is in the rear view mirror. my device is working but my display does not indicate the arrows anymore. just stopped for some reason. problem is that no one here in San Antone has worked with the rear view mirror display V1. Don't think there is anyone in Austin either.
you might want to try and call Mark Darragh. He is our reliable Fcar mechanic here in Houston. 832-277-7062. I know he has hard wired these in the past
Generally speaking, the V1 rearview mirror-etch integration is done by a handful of DIY'ers on various car enthusiast forums. I haven't come across any custom-interior / stereo-electronics shop doing such. I've had the following sites bookmarked for years: http://stealthmirror.com http://www.piddles.net/v1-install.htm http://www.wembleysells.com/V1HiddenHomeLinkMirror.htm
thats exactly it ,thanks for the bookmarks. the guy that did mine is back east. works out of miller motorcars ferrari. its a nice gig he has. does them when the cars are delivered. i am going to try a guy here locally with some experience in detector installs but not specifically the rear view mirror mount. cools sites though. probably cheaper to buy another unit and have it hardwired. but i will see.
I'm not overly familiar w/ how & where the owners of Ferrari M.R. models (ie. 308/328, 348/355, 360/430, 458, etc') mount their Valentine V1 radar detectors, but I assume there's a custom mounting bracket that fits on the rear firewall which stealthly [sic] holds the V1 radar-detector unit (disguises it as a brake-light / CHMSL appearance). And a V1 remote-display is integrated into the etched rearview mirror. Both are connected, then hardwired into a 12v power-source or a cabin fusebox. Here's an example from another M.R. ride: http://mosquitomagnet.hostoi.com/images/IMG_08732.jpg http://mosquitomagnet.hostoi.com/images/IMG_09013.jpg http://mosquitomagnet.hostoi.com/images/IMG_09075.jpg http://mosquitomagnet.hostoi.com/images/IMG_08681.jpg FWIW, there are notable online BMW & Porsche forums that have vendors who still provide this service along w/ pre-modified rearview mirrors (ie. V1 remote-unit integrated into etched OEM or after-market rearview mirrors). Also, one the most experienced & reputable providers was "InV1si" by Apexcone (Jim Powell). The website no longer is up, but I believe others have filled the void. There are numerous after-market rearview mirrors (ie. Gentex) available that incorporate autodimming, Bluetooth, compass, gps/nav, garage-door opener / homelink, temperature, rear-camera, etc' - which would make ideal contemporary rearview mirrors for V1 remote-display integration (allows the original OEM rearview to remain intact).
I have contacted Valentine and am awaiting reply. Hopefully i can get my car done and let you all in on what to do.
I have just been contacted by a guy that makes the V1 in the mirror and it is available if anyone would like to find out more please feel free to call me on 832-277-7062.
I've got a buddy that has been doing this for years and does amazing work.. it's totally stealth and is very reasonable pricing.. Check out http://www.radar-mirror.com He is based out of Dallas and I highly recommend him. Rick
This is a custom mirror from radar-mirror.com that a friend recently installed in his F430. In addition to the V1 display it adds auto dimming, Homelink programmable buttons, an led for the alarm and a digital compass. Pretty cool.
