    Hi

In theory, if a F355 have in the past been damaged severly and needed to be rebuilt using a donor car... How would this affect the value of the car in the long term?
Basically the car is then a mix of two F355's.

If the reconstruction is documented and carried out by qualified Ferrari garage, I assume it would help as many ferraris - old and new - has seen damage in their lifespan.

What are your thoughts on this? Would such a history make you turn away as a buyer?

Is the title salvage? The market standard is the value is 50-%60 that of a clean title car. Yes i would never purchase a car like this for anything short of a race car. Why would someone want to do such a thing to a mass produced car? A 355 that's been severely damaged is a parts car, now if it was a 250 gto ill be at the front of the line to put humpty dumpty back together :)

Mass produced is a relative expression I would say. In the common understanding of the words I would say its not mass produced. Wether restoration or parts car after the accident depends on what insurance company said I guess.
Damage was anyway done long time ago. Car is fully restored and looks good and close to perfect now. My question is how much would people in here think its value now and in the future is lowered because of its past history? I assume many mid engined semi old Ferraris have had accidents of various complexety throughout the years and still been sold at reasonable prices?

Being fixed a long time ago makes sense, probably at a time when the cars value was higher. The answer to your questions depends on the title status and your definition of "severely", it is an ambiguous term.

yes youre right. I dont really know excactly how the damage was. Only that at the time, they propably figured it made finacial sense to get hold of a new body rather than spending time straightening the damaged one.. Original engine and drivetrain , shocks, brakes, interior etc have been moved onto the new chassis, propably apart from the bits that was useless. I dont now more.. For my own sake perhaps I would still buy the car as long as the rebuild and repair was properly documented wth photographs, names, reciepts etc etc.

If a great, low miles, no stories gated 355 is maybe $75k right now, this car would be probably worth $35k-40k, tops.

Mass produced or not, clean examples are plentiful and affordable.
And the one you mention sounds like a pretty severe Frankenstein job, not just some light bodywork.

Buy it for yourself, at a deep discount from a clean one, and enjoy it. But understand that your car will likely always be discounted on the resale market.

Puh. I have discovered that the car is not crashed and is an undamaged 355.

Yes haha. Thankfully.. Got hold of the first owner after some digging.. who explained what had happened. Its a long and complex story that involves Norwegian import tax system. Paperwork.
Most importantly I am now the owner of a nice unmolested Ferrari that is no longer a mystery car. I feared the opposite was the case. Thanks for all your input anyway.

Wonder why the selling owner could have not done the same thing you did and gotten the CarFax corrected. Hard to comprehend that the Norwegian import tax system had anything to do with a car that appears to have spent it's whole life in the USA. Good luck with the car.

Thanks, I love it! its not a US car. it has been in Norway since it was new. And this complication happened when it was imported to replace another 355 that was 100% damaged in Norway.
