What would you pay for this Mondial 8?

    red/tan
    44K miles
    Interior 9/10
Exterior 7/10 (paint is a little tired)
4 New tires (2 weeks old)
Belt Service done 2 years ago
A/C converted to R134 and blows cold
    all tools and jack

I am thinking of getting this car for a daily driver. Owner is asking $22K. What is a fair price for this car? $22K seems a little high for a Mondial 8. Then again, I have not been following Mondial 8 prices.

Paint seems to be your biggest concern...

IMO it's in the ballpark. 18K-24K should find you a decent car.

    If he's asking 22K he'd probably take 20K.

    Good luck

I would say 22 is not too crazy at all. You may get it a little lower but if you can't and you like the car buy it and don't feel bad about doing it.

Just make sure that there is no bubbling/rust at the bottoms of the doors. This was a big problem with the Mondial 8s, and fixing it correctly usually means new door skins! (It's curved, so welding patches is difficult and costly.)

As a general rule, if someone is offering a car at $22K, you should hit them with an offer around $17.5K. Stay relatively firm, but after they squirm and say no way, you can say something like: "I suppose I could take a risk and go $18,250." It sounds like a big jump, but really isn't. Stay firm, even if it means initially walking away with saying "here's my card. If and when you reconsider, give me a call and I'll buy it at that price."

Or he may just take the $17.5!!! I've even had guys negotiate against themselves for cars. (Right before I was about to offer a guy $2500 for a car he had advertised for $3400, he said "look I've got $2000 into it, and would be happy to get that out of it." --- SOLD!)

The doors are rust free but there is an area of rust about 2"x2" on the right front fender where it meets the windshield. It does not seem like a major deal to repair, but I am not an expert in body repairs.

I can purchase the car for $18K, but I thought at $18K I was paying the going rate.

I would use that to leverage an offer of $16K. Wish I was in your predicament!
    Good luck.:)

I tried $16K and was told to go pound sand. The price is a firm $18K - take it or leave it.

I plan to use the car as a my daily driver and basically drive the crap out of the car.

The car is already showing rust issues - do you really want to slowly DESTROY the car? Parking it outside/in the rain, driving through standing water/snow? You can do that with a Honda, for much less money, and not care - they'll make more Hondas.

2"x2"? I would leave it. Pulling the glass (and probably breaking it) and dealing with that separate nightmare of the bodywork to fix this car right would be way more trouble than it is worth. This is a nightmare. I would stay patient and look for a car that is more solid.

At $18K you dont spend a lot of money & you get a great car. Look at some of the above post's, they read:

    "he'd probably take 20K..."
"22 is not too crazy at all..."

Now your talking much less than that. Go get it and start enjoying.

It's an 18K car. At that price, leave the windshield in place, strip some paint around the rust, cut out what you can easily get to, spray in the Por15 and weld a patch back in. When it pops up again in 10 years, will ya really care?
