    Greetings,

I'm looking at a 308 GTSI on ebay,

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/308-Ferrari-very-nice-car_W0QQitemZ4629810251QQcategoryZ6212QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It has 22k miles, but the engine has been rebuilt? Is that a warning that such a low mile car would need an engine rebuild 2,500 miles ago?

But mainly, i'm trying to value, not the cost, but how much benefit I should value:

    1. Rebult engine "new updated Euro style pistons and timed to european specs"

    2. Clutch linkage converted to 328

    3. includes new clutch, all new hoses, new injectors, all filters etc

    4. has been fitted with new 328 wheels and new Michelin pilots

Any advice and added value for this nice 308 GTSi?

    Thanks

    Mac

It does look nice but remember that is only a 2 valve engine.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I noted that the ad, right after the things you mentioned, says, "This vehicle is in 100 percent original condition and has no non-factory mods" !!

If you're looking for a "concours" car, all you'd have to do is go back to 14" wheels, which are relatively cheap. If you're looking for a good driving car, the mods are all positive and things you might do yourself once you had the car for awhile (other than the engine rebuild -- you want to find out the details of that... higher compression, etc, and WHY)..

I just asked the Why rebuilt question. For me, these upgrades mean I may not have to be spending as much $$ over the next 2 years in maintanance.

I have been looking for a QV but the ones I've found are in the high 30K and $40K.

22K miles I'm guessing would drive more like new. This would be my first F-Car.

    Thanks for the advice.

P.S. What would these upgrades cost? Not including the rebuild? And how much should I value them in my purchase cost? Like the 328 wheels etc?

    Thanks

    Just got a reply:

The reserve is 38k and I have a standing 35k offer on this car.

" It appeared to me, when I bought it, that this car had sat for an extremely long time without being driven. I really don't know why. It was in bad need of service when I got it, but in very original condition (garaged)so I decided to just take the engine out and rebuild it, as it was going to be my own car. (I am very picky about the cars I drive.)"

Well $38K is out of my budget.

If it were my car, I would be all over that 35K offer (if it exists) like flies on fresh poop.

I also call bogus on the standing $35k offer. If he has that offered you should not go higher. There are decent cars available for less.
Search the archives and be patient. The right car will find you.

Lot of time , money and effort spent on an engine just because it was in need of a major service. If I remember, many of the 2 valve fuel injected engines burned lots of oil and some were replaced by warranty. Mabe this one wasn't replaced??

I highly doubt this guy rebuilt the engine "just because." If the engine was indeed rebuilt, it's because of something bad, like a broken timing belt or a bad exhaust valve. Or the whole story about the rebuilt engine is a scam to sell the car to someone that knows squat. Ferrari engines are TOUGH. They don't need to be rebuilt after 22K miles unless something terrible happened.

BTW, the 2 valve injected 308s are the least expensive of all the 308 models, and $35K would be for an absolutely perfect show car, 100% original. A driver should set you back considerably less.

    Yep, tha's carbed 308 money.....fo' sure......;)

He actually took it the wrong way, timewise....earlier cams etc. were stronger!

eBay RARELY posts a prize example, IMO.....
