Value of Maserati Indy

Does anyone know how much a nice '72 Indy could be worth?
The colour is light metallic blue with a beige interior; original Campagnolo wheels and Michelin XWX tires.
The clock shows 100,000 km but the engine was rebuilt by Maserati in Modena.

4.7 or 4.9?

 

Probably a 4.2; not 100% sure.

 

Here in Europe, they cost around 20,000 to 50,000 euros. They are relatively cheap because the Indy doesn't look like a sports car, it looks very... average and unimpressive.

Buyers prefer the more beautiful and popular Ghibli.

 

Were there no Indy's with the 4200 engine too?

The styling is, of course, a matter of personal preference. I have always liked the not-so-in-your-face looks, it takes 4 people if that's important to you, and it harks back at the 60-ies as far as reasonable money can buy.

There's of course a downside too: Restoring one costs as much as restoring any Maserati of the era, and you could be upside down easier.

If an Indy is your car of choice, buy the best you can find: it'll be the cheapest to own and enjoy.

Also have a good look at differences between the various Indy's: The dasgboard, for instance springs to mind. Some are prettier than others.

 

In this case the car belongs to a friend of mine, who bought it out of impulse, I believe.
He paid € 35,000 or so and it would appear, from what I see here, that he paid a fair price.
I was under the impression the car could be worth more, but I suppose I was off the mark.
The car looks clean, nice colour combination, all original and the styling is just right for me.
I like the Ghibly too, but mechanically the 2 cars are not so far apart to justify that huge value difference.
Then again, that is just my opinion.

An Indy will never be worth what a Ghibli is. So know that going in. They are a hard sell. Ghiblis used to be as well, quite a while ago. There's always hope ... You should drive it. It's a pretty ancient design but really not a lot different than a Ghibli. The Khamsin & Bora made the the big changes with IRS for Maserati GT cars. I happen to think that's a big deal. You may not care. I think these cars drive like old trucks. The Ghibli is a very pretty old truck though.

I have a long time friend who has owned his Indy almost since new and has used it through out Europe and the USA. He still loves it and he has a 4200 Coupe as well. His is a 4.2. His will be up for sale only once he's dead. So there are fans of these cars out there.

I think the interiors are very well put together but as previously mentioned some of the dashboards are a lot more appealing than others.
