E-Bay has a no reserve auction for this 1991 348 white with black interior and 38K miles. I agree with the seller that the value "should" be around $50K. However, he modified the car by swapping in the front end of a 355 to give it a more "modern" look, including front spoiler, air intake grille, and fog lights from the 355. Lets assume that these are real Ferrari body panel and parts from a 355 and not aftermarket replica knock-offs. What should this do to the actual value of the vehicle? Same, decrease, or increase? On that note, one can imagine swapping the rear grille and tail lights for the 355 parts, which many people also favor as an improvement over the 348. So what do you have then in terms of actual car value: a 355 with 50 less HP (which can be tuned by Norwoods) and side rake air intakes, a 348, or a worthless monstrosity? Can you "make" a 355 on the cheap by changing the appropriate body panels and tuning the engine for a $20K-$40K difference in price from 348 to 355?

When I look at the pics it seems to be a very nice car.
I'm not so fond of white, but hell, it looks great on this one..

    A 1991 348 has 300HP, a 1995 355 has 380HP. I don't think Norwood can just "tune" that kind of power out of a 348 engine.

I wonder if the seller decided to put on the 355 bumper and lights because he liked the look, or because he had a 348 with a smashed nose? Ask him if he would include the old 348 parts in the deal. I'll bet he doesn't have them. Ask him if he took pictures during the conversion.

The black wheels look AWFUL in the pictures, why did he do that???

He really should've had that roof colour coded, it looks awful on white.

And purely personal, I think the 355 front end looks like a badly judged after thought. One thing the 348 has over the 355 is the more aggressive look. The 355 nose takes a lot of this away.

The *best* look on the 348 is the front nose. The best look on the 355 is the rear engine cover.

This owner has combined the runner-ups onto his car, instead of going with the winning looks.

It does sound as though he did the proper electrical grounding of the ECU's (engine, exhaust), and he just finished a major service, so he has a few things that are positive on the mechanical front.

I'm no fan of black wheels (heck, I don't even like the heat from the Sun that black seats get), but powder coating into your color of choice is not a big expense.

Is that a tow rope hooked to the front bumper, though?!

Has he added value to the car? Mechanically, a little. Cosmetically, no.

Whatever he gets over $35k will be a retail sale; less and you can call it a wholesale.

*But as for power, not that the guy in this auction made any claims, but keep in mind that the 348 Competitizione came out with 360 hp in 1993; made almost solely with different fuel mapping chips.

    The 355 has a 3.5 liter V8, power steering, and a 6 speed transmission.

The 348 has a 3.4 liter v8, no power steering, and a 5 speed transmission.

You can make either look like the other, but it will delete value from both. But you're dealing in Ferrari's; F-car owners do what *they* want personally...rather than generally fret about a depreciating investment.

That 20 to 40k difference in price between models has something to do with age, too. You don't get around age with new body panels.

There is another thread on this car titled something like "Could be a good deal if you like the look". This will be the third no reserve auction of this car that I know of. Sounds like they either have extremely bad luck with the buyers that 'win', or something shady is going on. I would say $40k max.

You also would have to have the mirror tint removed. I would say that takes down the value a bit as well.

to give you a reference point. I bought my 348 which was all stock except for the Valentine 1 built in that did not work. It had the color coded bottom as well instead of the original black. I paid 45K for it with 20K miles about 10 months ago. I would value this a little less because of the modifications and higher miles. I don't like the way it looks personally, but I think it is worth 40k if he has the recent major service documented. Bumpers and everything else you could change back if you desired...the exchangable parts are about equivaliant in price. I doubt the guy would sell it for $35k, if he is willing and you don't want to buy it...let me know...i'll buy it.

It depends on what you want to do with this car on whether I would buy it...If your looking at resale I would pass it up. But if your looking long term for a low initial investment, it might be a good bye.

Agreed. Never really liked white cars. But with the black on this car, it makes a great combo.
