Hi Guys First time on this board. I've come across, an F40 that has a mechanical problem that cannot be determined, car simply does not start, Car has been locked up in a garage for last three years due to this problem and owner cannot afford to fix it - As car was received as a gift. Anyone possibly give me a rough estimate to what this car might be worth ? Thx Sam
You may want to contact Roland Linder in the Rocky Mountain divison. He has on that was converted to an LM spec after a fire. Also JohhyFerrari would be a good source (also Rocky Mountain). They take their F40s all over the place to track events and really research the cars. Both were bought after fire damage so they may have an idea of the values. You may need to give your post or message some time because Roland is on his way back from Canada to Colorado in a friend's F40. -Matt
I'd kill to get my hands on that. In about 13 months when my training as a car technician is finished. I have no idea how happy I'd be, bringing a F40 back to life and starting her up for the first time.
Giver was Royal Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to one of the former soccer captains of one of the clubs he owned. Captain was given the car for leading team to victory in one of the local tournaments. I have the chance to buy this car, (even though I know little about ferraris, and have driven a ferrari only once (348TB) I'm a porsche guy ) Anyway the seller has no idea what he wants for it, so he's open to offers (sensible offers). So I was curious to what it might be worth..
may be a good idea to either post the chasis number for research sake or PM the info privately to those that need to know. this may be VERY helpful to them in answering your questions. good luck.
Car is in Saudi Arabia. Believe its a 91 model. Dont know much about the car, just needed a rough guide to whats it worth before I start talking serious with the owner.
Offer him a hundred grand and see what he says... If he hasn't touched it in three years, a hundred grand for a clearer space in the garage would certainly be enough, i would think... Even if you pour two more hundred grand into the thing to get it working, you'd still be on top - and i highly doubt it would take two hundred grand to get it working... At the very worst, the car needs an engine rebuild a new engine - and either way, that's less than 200k, so whether you pour the money into it and keep it or flip it after it's been restored, you're still on top... i say go for it; if you can grab it for a 100k, you're golden...
You need to have it checked out by a capable mechanic - Depending on the problem, it is hard to say what it is worth. Anything else would just be a guess.
Well no matter what the problem is, it cannot cost more than $100,000 to fix, and that is if it does not have an engine or transmission at all! so deduct a $100,000 from maket value and you are safe.... but this this smells pretty fishy... Lets think about this, the car has a clear title, it needs to be repaired, repair it, borrow against the car to pay the bill, sell the car for full value to pay the loan... sounds like a nigerian money scam....
Thanks Guys Will get chassis number and move cautiously on it, before I make any stupid decisions. From what I can tell so far though its all genuine. Saudi Arabia has a niche market for Super Cars and caters more for the latest rides rather then golden oldies.
Assuming you are not also in Saudi, don't forget about the cost to ship it to wherever you are, any customs hassles or duties, if you are in the US the cost to federalize it (if it is not a US model), the cost to go and look at it in person, etc. Those costs can really add up! Of course, if you *are* in Saudi, then never mind.
I'm a skeptic. Even if you have seen pictures of it, please chime in a little more with details. I doubt someone is going to cut in line to obtain the car. But it just smells like a Nigerian scam to me. If you get the chassis #, that should be all we need.
This is probably a Euro car. Big difference from a US. If so, it would ONLY make a nice museum piece or a track car....... This considered, $100K might be about right. Rick
Roland Linder found his brand new F40 motor on Ebay with turbos and all for $20,000, and I think the transmission was included too. I think with any luck you can get it running for not more than $50,000 and thats if it isn't just some stupid thing, maybe it could be less than $5,000.
I've seen one cranked up on stale gas and cost the owner $5K... Are you sure on Roland's motor? I was remembering closer to $80K...not as sure on that one. I think we all agree, non running it's not worth much, the big question is "What will it take to get there?????"
$20,000 for a brand new F40 motor sounds a little on the cheap side, especially considering original MSRP on the car was $415,000...
The story was published in Forza......once Roland was into rebuilding his burned out car, a Wall Street speculator got tired of tripping over a crate motor he had purchased, on speculation....when new...it was a spare or something...... It was less than $100K but I don't think $20K is correct..he's down in Rocky Mountain Section, if he's home....he had a trip to Canada planned this week. Anyway.....he was lucky, this project won't be.......
That said....I think an F40 that is sitting will need a lot of labor, but NOT a new engine.... .....unless it's sitting with a conn rod out the side...........LOL!
No Randy, its true. I heard the guy also has a Mclaren F1 that his wife put diesel in by mistake. It has been sitting in his garage next to his F40 for the last 3 years and he just wants to get rid of it too. Should I offer him 50k?, you know how diesel screws up those big BMW V12's.
