1997 Spider 6 speed with 36,075, Yellow and Black. No service records, ran a carfax and found it had been serviced at Algar Ferrari, called them and in 2005 had new pistons, engine rebuild. 2007 new clutch. No record of a major service. No other records. So no idea about valves and manifolds. Has sticky interior, some tear in both seat bottoms. Normal rock chips in the front, road rash on passenger wheels. The shifter ball is kinked to the right? Give me your guess as to what they are asking and what you would pay. This should be fun!
If I was selling would ask $70 K per Haggertys $30 K premium for a 3 pedal. But would shoot for $50 K if I was buying it ....it's gunna need some work.
Based on the first post only, I'd pass unless it was under $30k and local. My guess is they're asking over $100k.
So they are asking $74,000 which includes doing a major. They are not a Ferrari dealer but supposedly have done major's on Ferrari's. I am not mechanically inclined so all of the issues I would have to pay to fix. I would want to test drive and have a PPI done. Not sure who I could get to do that, I'm in West Michigan. I'm thinking I offer them my Cobra value of $55,000 even trade. They do the major, and we split the cost to repair the seats and sticky interior. This would be after a good PPI and test drive. Thoughts?
74 seems real strong, unless prices have really jumped in the last year or so. You need to nail down exactly what will be done in the major. They are going to try and do the least amount as possible. With the age and miles, there may be a lot of other things that will be easy to do with the engine out, but will add parts cost to the bill. I would want to be in charge of my own major service.
Based on the info provided, $74K is not going to come there way by anyone that pays attention to the market. We would need some photos to evaluate better. Having them do the major is a gamble.... they may do the bare minimum and turn a blind eye to things in need....

You did not post a pic of the exhaust so we don't know. Engine bay very dirty. Carpets look pretty dirty also. They will never get $74K My suggestion would be to look for a better car that needs less.... You said you would need to pay to have everything done as you are not mechanically inclined - that said - look for a pristine car and pay a higher price - it will cost you less in the end.

I really like that car but he is not interested in a trade. I am looking to trade my Cobra to purchase a F355.
I'm assuming you want to do that to save on sales tax? That may or may not work out so well as it will limit the 355's you could have....
