    Love the acronyms! Hilarious!! :)

I agree, the original 355 F1 adopters really paved the way for the rest of the following models, and now there's no gates available new as we all know. If nobody bought the 355 F1's back then, would all street Ferraris from 360/575 up have gates?

I rented a 360 F1 hard top for 24 hours when I was 25 while thinking about buying one of these great cars. I drove the snot out of it, over 800 miles, mostly canyon/mountain roads and determined the F1 would be awesome on track, but for spirited driving or just cruising the gated shifter was for me. Went with a 1995 6speed Berlinetta and really glad I did.

This is what Swancoat came here for and I entirely subscribe Nikki's post, bearing in mind US market values.

I think you're both spot on regarding one thing: You may have an alien among you, because I would seriously consider it. Sure, why not? It wouldn't scare me away, quite the opposite. There's a strong market for non rosso corsa Ferraris. For me, it's a Ferrari and if it's properly maintained, fully serviced and accompanied by all the original and relevant paperwork, I'll take it, couldn't care less about the color. One of the aspects that draws me more towards a Ferrari is exclusivity, so a green Ferrari would fit the bill perfectly. Of course one guy isn't a sample of an entire market, I give you that. I'm not judging the market based on what I want and/or like and/or do. Nowadays there's a market for everything and everyone. Lets say I want a green Ferrari, any other color just won't do. How many are there?! You, as the owner, dictate the price. Period. If I really want it, I'll just have to say "amen" to your price tag, regardless of how high it may be. And feeling that demand, I'm sure you won't ask a below-average price. Hence rarity increasing value in practice. Again: I know you don't agree, but I'm trying to at least explain myself with sound arguments.

Linking desirability to value works quite the opposite in my opinion: The original Mini or the VW Beetle were highly desirable. Everybody wanted/wants them. They made millions of them. If desirability increases and/or dictates value, they should be worth millions now. And what are they worth? Zero, zilch, nada.

As a general rule, I think there's a substancial difference on how people face an F1 transmission in the US and in Europe. Over there, the vast majority of cars are automatic, over here in Europe it's a fairly recent trend and still more often than not only linked to high end cars. Goes to say that in my humble opinion, F1 are perceived to be slightly more exotic over here and therefore somewhat desirable compared to the US where an automatic transmission is as exotic as a ham sandwich. That's what I'd call a market specificity. Maybe it does affect value, maybe it doesn't.

Kind regards and have a great weekend.

    Nuno.

    I own a six-speed, and I'm bloody glad I do.

    Wouldn't want anything else.

not sure I could in a 355, now that I think about it...

Out of the top 10 highest priced 355s for sale right now on Pistonheads, 8 of them are six speeds, and only two are manual.

So the claim that manual cars command a higher price is more likely to be a US FChat bull****ters thing than an actual reality thing.

Don't know, but I don't see how that is relevant to the claim that "manual cars are worth more than F1 cars".
That totally baseless statement seems to be a blanket one which is not borne out by the facts.
A bit like the '95 thing, really.
ie. a couple of people on FChat say it, so it must be true...

Because if there are 4x many f1 cars for sale overall, an 8:2 ratio would be completely and totally normal, especially given f1 cars are overall newer with resulting less miles.

So, you agree that mileage and year (ie. newer equals better) is more important than gearbox when it come to price?

The very premise of this debate was that some people were claiming that manual = higher value. And that is patently false.

A nice original car that is desirable is what sells less miles best possible condition

Trying to split it with transmissions is the biggest strecth I ever herd of and none of us will live long enough to see that
