    Good evening. Ive researched the required valve clearances at 2-2.5 for inlet and 3-3.5 for exhaust however all of mine are largely consistent at 1.5 for inlet and 2.5 for exhaust.

    Are the early carbed cars any different, as these reading seem a little tight?

    Regards

    Good day wda24729,

    Looking at both owner's manuals for the 400GT and the 365GT4 2+2, both show the same values:

    0.10 mm to 0.15 mm (0.004" to 0.006") Intake
    0.25 mm to 0.30 mm (0.010" to 0.012") Exhaust

    I have attached screen shots of the relevant owner's manual pages.

    If anything I would err to the "loose" side rather than "too tight".

    Looking at your measurements (I think your decimal point is in the wrong place :) ) the intake is at the upper limit and the exhaust on the lower limit.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    Thanks Sam, that makes alot more sense, and yes sorry decimal point in the wrong place! :(

    I only have the 400i workshop manual which specifies the figures I identified above. I don't have the 400GT version, lucky I asked :)

    You are correct,the 400GT and the 400i does not have the same measured valve clearance - although the opposite is often believed.

    400GT = inlet 0.10-0.15 / exhaust 0.25-0.30
    400i = inlet 0.20-0.25 / exhaust 0.30-0.35

    365GT4 2+2 have the same values as 400GT

    Looks like I'm okay then, thanks for your help.

    Don't suppose anyone has a copy of the 400GT WMN they might be willing to supply? :)

    There's no manual for the 365GT4 2+2 either.

    Indeed, this is true... however, I was told that one could use the Service/Repair Manual for the 365 GTC4 (Ferrari Publication Number 79/73) given the technical similarities between the two models. Angelo Wallace apparently did an English Translation and has an ISBN of 0-9606804-6-2:

    http://www.365gtc4.com/reference/books.aspx

    The only place where I saw the Angelo Wallace version was on Books4Cars:

    https://books4cars.com/listings.php?findmake=Ferrari&model=365&year=1973&type=%

    They list it as $129.95 USD, however, it would be best to check to ensure that they have stock.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    I used a combination of manuals from the 365, 400GT, and 400i. I have everything I've collected in a google drive folder, I'll create a new thread with a link to it.

    I really don't post as much as I should but you are always welcome to message me. We have been going through all of the systems on the car but not restoration quality, it's going to be a solid driver. I'm currently working on rewiring the engine compartment and hoping to be ready to put the engine back in and get it on the road this spring.

    Ah so your also in the 'engine out' club at present. Engine bay is next on the list but not looking too bad and everything electrical works which is a relief. Have to say, although I do like a challenge, this is not one of my more enjoyable restos. What's the saying....one step forward, two steps back.

    One thing I will contact you about later is torque settings other than the few that are supplied in the WSM.

    Ironically, most of the electrical equipment "works", but some of it has been hacked together. Between that and the brittle wires, we figured it would be another worthy "while you're at it". Keep in mind everything rubber on a 40 year old car probably needs to be replaced. I was amazed it hadn't gone up in flames between the cracked wiring and fuel lines.

    Mines not too bad actually, just those stupid exposed braided earth wires.
