Will the bare aluminum originals take a polish of any kind? I don't fancy going non-original when I get around to cleaning up and detailing the engine and compartment.

I know what you mean... as I cleaned up and painted my engine compartment while the motor was out a few years back, a lot of the welds still had pieces of MIG wire hanging out of them. When I took the factory tour, I asked about the shoddy work and was told that the frames were built by an outside partner and as with many companies, when the frames were being made there was a "pecking order". The new guys start out on the lower level cars and as their work improved and they were advanced along in the company, they would move to the more expensive cars. So I'd suspect most of our car's frames were built by the "less accomplished" builders.

I went with a clear powdercoat - with some red highlights. Not concourse, but definitely makes the engine bay pop a little bit more.

I have posted this before but since we are on the topic... The best part was the look on my wife's face when she saw what I had cooking in her oven!

$6??? not anymore. I just bought a can of VHT last week - $14 (special order). I had the plenum painted with VHT about 6 years ago. The red didn't come close to matching so the local body shop went over it with Corso Rosso. At the major 2 weeks ago the mechanic sprayed something all over the engine bay to clean it up - and it ended up taking off some of the plenum paint so it's time to do the same process again. But it held up amazing well.

I wanted to replicate the original GT4 engine factory photo (without the small bearing pump). I was told by someone that this was the engine on display in Geneva when the GT4 was introduced, however I was not there and have seen no pics of it. Attached is the factory photo, my engine and with the air cleaner. I am currently working on my tanks and engine compartment so it will look better my old pics when done.

Brian is my distributor on wrong. I dont think so but look at the factory photo.

Cool - hopefully the motor will be back where it belongs by then!
I may stop by Saturday AM before the Phils/Brewers game, long shot but may be picking it up then too.
    Cheers

I believe that that "factory photo" is more art than reality -- Euro 1-4 cam cover (no air pump mounting feature) but with twin distributors? There are a couple of figures in the 91/74 Euro 308GT4 OM that show the twin distributors and the wires on the 1-4 bank distributor exiting in that direction (Fig 27, page 38 and Fig 51, page 71), but the SPCs show the Euro 308GT4 as only having the single distributor. Furthermore, all of the US 308GT4 figures (OMs and WSM) show the 1-4 dist wires exiting as on your engine to avoid the air pump belt (which makes sense to me).
