2007 F430 9,000 miles. Just purchased the car went in for new mounts and the tech reported oil on under pan small leak in valve cover gasket. Probably because car has very low miles. The tech said at some point will need to replace gasket and is labor intensive and require engine out. Does the engine have to come out? Getting different answers.
    Thanks

I’ve never heard of having to remove the engine to replace valve cover gaskets, that is ludicrous. I have heard that it’s a several hour job.

Mine weep slightly on my 2009. Try snugging up the bolts a little. The required torque is low, so just tighten them a little and see if that helps.

Uuuuhhhh...did they get the head gasket and valve cover gasket mixed up? I can't imagine it's insanely different than the 360 but it's a couple hour job at most.

It's only leaking from timing cover gasket. Oil was found on the under tray. Tech said 50-60hrs of labor.

Sorry, it's the timing cover gasket that's leaking.

I got it totally fixed up buddy. It's the timing cover gasket that's leaking.

I don’t see anywhere near 50-60 hours for the timing cover gasket either!

I replaced a timing cover gasket on my 360 a few years back, definitely no engine out and nowhere near 50 hours of labour. I think it took me half a day, and it was on a Spider. Coupe should be much easier with no roof getting in the way

Gentlemen, the 430 has timing chains and the 360 has timing belts. The two engines are vastly different in the timing area. There is no timing cover gasket on the 360 while there is a very complex timing cover gasket on the front of the 430 engine. Its replacement would absolutely require the engine to be out of the car and is a big job. Unless there are other reasons to remove the engine, it's probably safe to leave that alone until the need absolutely arises.

What gasket did you replace with the engine in? number 21? If so, that is a job well done.

Post up pics of the leak. There’s a good chance it’s your power steering hose where it connects to the power steering pump. Easy to confuse with a timing chain cover leak.

Or the reservoir itself...mine was split at the seam when I got it, a complete mess.

I fixed the oil leak on my Maserati Spyder which has the same front setup as a 430. Part 21 is not really a gasket but more an o ring so it dries, hardens and leaks. It's made in a way you can't tighten it. Now I realise this is the Ferrari site and you may wish to spend all the money it takes to replace the gasket, but what I did is solvent clean the joint area around the cover and then applid an external film of silicone sealant along the joint. Oil leak stopped for 7 years now. The cam cover gaskets should be easy to get at, but remember to use silicone sealant on the o ring gasket or you'll quickly get leaks. Again no leak on my cam covers for 7 years.

I should've double-checked my covers before posting - I replaced valve cover gasket, not timing cover

There is no room in the Ferrari mid-engine location to remove the front cover. The Maserati is very different because it's a front engine car.

The front chest? You don't need to take the engine out. 10-12 hours at my workshop depending on how the job goes.

Is this an actual Ferrari dealership telling you this? This is a complete lie and I would never go back and I highly question if the valve cover gasket is even leaking. At most it’s probably just at the sweating stage.

Sorry for the tardy reply - I've been busy in the real world.

Drain the fluids. Seats out and hatch off. Frame out and valve covers off. Move the AC compressor out of the way. The toughest part is undoing the crank pulley bolt - you will need to lock the flywheel and use a big bar. Once I had to remove the exhaust system and undo the engine mounts to tilt the drivetrain so I could get an impact gun on the bolt. Once the pulley is off then the front cover unbolts. It'll be tough to pull it off the water pump - you may need a slide hammer.

It's not a challenging job, just time consuming.
