I've noticed, since many of you 348 owners are doing 30K majors, that you are using Ferrari OEM valve shims. When I had my 308s/328 I use to order my shims through a company called Global Metrics, Inc. They utilize the exact same type of hardened shims as Ferrari at a much lower cost. When I did my adjustments, the shims were $1.50/shim and you could buy a complete set of 40 shims in all the sizes for $60.00. I also found that their shims ran much truer to the marked size than Ferrari's when measured with a micrometer. I did a search on the Internet to find their website, but all I could find was their address and phone number. Call them, you need to establish an "account", and order a catalog. They also sell all different types of metric fasteners, electrical connections, etc...

    Here's the address:

I seem to remember a little discussion here somewhere about that. I think the 348 shims are a different diameter than the 308s, although I could be wrong. IIRC, this source didn't have shims that would work for a 348. Just thinking out loud...

Sorry, Rick. That very well may be, as the engine Tipo is completely different from the 308/328 series. Does anyone know for sure,as, if this is incorrect, I'd like to get a Mod to delete this thread.

I just answered my own question. The shims for the 348, Mondial T, etc., are NOT the same as for the 308/328 engines. I am not sure if Global Metrics carries the shims for the 348 series.

EDIT: I just searched the 348/F355 and 308/328/Mondial forums for Global Metrics and there was nothing regarding valve shims. Give them a call anyway. They carry a huge assortment of metric fasteners, electrical connections/tools, etc., that no one else seems to have. I do hope they have the correct shims for the 348/Mondial T engines. Sorry for the confusion.

You're a good man Scott, thanks for the info!

I imagine you could just send them an old shim in the mail and have them mic it, or you could mic the o/d and then ask them if they have shims in that size.

The 308 shims are a lot bigger in diameter. I know this because while doing my 348's 30k service I pulled out the 308 shim box and the shims were bigger than the 348's.
