Hi there, I just bought a 2006 612. It will be delivered the end of May. I am a bit curious: does a 2006 model have exhaust valves or not? I heard 'early' 612's don't have exhaust valves but I do not know till which year it is an early 612 Thanks for the answers. PS: I forgot to check it myself when I bought the car and it is 650 miles from home. Verstuurd vanaf mijn G3121 met Tapatalk
2006 cars can definitely have valved exhaust but it’s part of the HGTS or HGTC packages which I believe were introduced in Nov 2005. Look for double walled exhaust tips. You should also note a distinct change in sound around 2800 revs. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
The car does not have the HGTC package, just standard exhausts. Verstuurd vanaf mijn G3121 met Tapatalk
So the question is, does a 2006 612 without HGTx package have the valve control ECU logic? Probably not as the HGTx packages contains various control unit upgrades. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
If she has valves, you should be able to see them through the screens. This is an HGTS/HGTC exhaust from a 2006 612. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If the valve on the standard exhaust is located at the end tips, like the photo, I am pretty sure mine does not have a valved exhaust. Sooooooo, I need an other exhaust. Verstuurd vanaf mijn G3121 met Tapatalk
Will not do you much good if the Motronic ECU cannot send a signal to likely the non-existent bypass solenoid to open the valves via the vacuum accumulator and vacuum lines. Have your tech check and see if they are all there. Otherwise you might need a later Motronic and the relevant parts. Also possible Ferrari knew the HGTS/HGTC options were coming and put them in for commonality. They can be rigged to run on vacuum alone like old 4 barrel carburetor secondaries. Fabio did that on a 456 GT that effectively has no vacuum operated systems, including the brakes.
The sound of the valved exhaust is fantastic when it runs open, but retrofitting does not make sense financially Buy a pair of non valved tubis, they are great
I had the non-valved Tubis on my 2006 612 and the sound was underwhelming. I then sourced the sport, valved, OEM Ferrari exhaust cans off a HGTC 612. I was also able to get the OEM vacuum device off a donor car and the OE plumbing. My ECUs did not contain the program to automatically open and close the valves so I simply wired a switch to the bottom of my steering column shroud which I can flip to allow "loud" or "quiet" mode. What it doesn't provide is the "ECU controlled" mode where the ECU opens and closes the exhaust. If someone has a donor ECU for the F1 2006 sport exhaust equipped cars, I could have the program read and then cloned onto the non-sport exhaust 2006 ecu. That being said, it wasn't a big enough priority for my so I simply use the rocker switch.
Indeed the waiting is long...! Hereby some pictures Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I found someone here on the Dutch forum with a 612 and a bypass valve solution. Sounds really good on video, I will check it in real life and probably go for this option.
If you could post the solution for those of us outside the EU to see it would be appreciated ... Thank you in advance ....
Thanks! On the floor it is just carpet. Carta da zucherro aka blue. Verstuurd vanaf mijn G3121 met Tapatalk
Here's my '05 which was retrofitted with the "Sport" exhaust by the dealership using factory parts for Owner #1. You can clearly see the actuator behind the grill and the open butterfly inside the pipe however no twin wall pipe with slotted tip. I'll dig out the service ticket over the weekend and see if I can find Part No's or descriptions.
OK, I've looked at my file folder and here's what I've got. One photo is of a page from the 612 Accessory Catalog and, if you look at the bottom, you'll see two part no. options dependent upon your Assembly No. - can't help you with that but I'm sure it'll be somewhere in your documentation or on your car or the Registry (Taz helped me with mine). The second photo is of the shop ticket on my car when the retrofit was done. You'll see a reference to Part No.70001371 which DOES NOT correspond to either no. in the Accessory Catalog! I don't know quite what to make out of this - perhaps there was some kind of interim kit for earlier cars before it was superseded? In any case, in the event you decide to do the upgrade, you'll want to be sure you're dealing with a REALLY good parts man who understands those nuances and, as far as Swiss612's observation about cost effectiveness, you'll notice that my car consumed 3.0 hours of labor, a $4687 kit, and some additional miscellaneous parts...in 2010 dollars. Hope this helps.
Interestingly enough, Part No. 70001371, according to online artifactual resources, corresponds to chrome plated exhaust tips for cars with Assembly No's. postdating 72104 so DEFINITELY proceed with caution. It can obviously be done (as it was to my car), and I'll bet the cost is accurate - or was in 2010 - but the actual part no. is one of the great intrigues of Italian organizational methodology so be sure your source knows what they're talking about lest you get stuck with the wrong kit on a discontinued item that can't be returned!
Thanks for all the effort. Really helpfull. When finally have the car I will check your documents together with a parts specialist. Verstuurd vanaf mijn G3121 met Tapatalk
Here's a better image of the Accessory Catalog listing - the last one wasn't very good. If you look carefully, you'll see that there's actually a fitment for cars that DO NOT have the factory ECU among the options!
