A little while back I did a major service on my 360, which I documented on YouTube over the span of a few videos. This included quite a few things. One of the more intricate jobs being the replacement of the variators, since mine were the older style and hadn’t yet been updated.

When I started looking around for the factory tools, I couldn’t source the official ones. So, I ended up modeling one specifically for removal/install, test-fitting it, and then putting it to use with great success!

That said, I did run into one tricky variator. After removing the snap ring, housing, and internal components, I still couldn’t get it free. The only way it came out was by cutting the base flange of the variator right up to the camshaft base, which relieved enough tension to finally remove it. Just a tip in case you ever run into the same issue. Also, don’t forget, these are left-hand thread and the campaign suggest you install with the threads dry on the cam and the variator itself.

Since the tool worked out well, I wanted to make it available for the community. You can download it and print it in 316L stainless or any other strong material of your choice that will hold up.

It doesn’t really make sense to charge for something like this. In return, all I ask is that you don’t sell the model/tool for profit. I’ve included a license file (CC BY-NC 4.0) along with the STL in the attached ZIP file.

This is shared purely for community or personal use. Please use it responsibly and at your own risk. I’m putting it out there to give back, because that’s what keeps the community going: sharing knowledge, tips, and tricks so we can all keep these cars alive.

This is great, as there are still a few cars out there that need this done. Last year I removed my cams and took them to a well-known Ferrari tech. He informed me that even he didn't have the tool to remove them. I was able to source one from another 360 DIY'er, and he searched and couldn't find one. I want to say it was an Alfa tool.
