Cool thing but always hated the word "imagineers".

All this for only one flight?

I'm wondering if it has to do with restricted airspace and the safety of operating over such high density crowds? Maybe Disney needed to get an exemption for the special opening? But doesn't want to risk it on a daily basis? Otherwise, it'd be a big draw if they could do it every night for the first year of the new expansion.

I heard that was the case: FAA approval. Maybe they think if they can prove it's safe they can do it again. But, it's a ton of money for just one event. And, to be honest, they didn't get that much PR out of it.

I've followed Disney for years (as I've always admired their creativity)... but they've always been strange about creating exclusives and limited specials, promotions... for their die-hard customers (who love feeling like they're insiders and in the know).

It seems to create a strange addiction or cult like following among their devoted core... as they hunt for news and information of special events, because they know Disney does things like this quite often but doesn't advertise it... so if you miss it, its gone.

I just heard today that they finally opened the new section of the Magic Kingdom... I had know idea about the flying dragon or I would have gone last night to check it out. (Funny business model, what do you do when you're already sold-out, and don't want to create a bigger disappointed mob outside the front gate?)

    Really... very interesting :)

I do know about the PITA part... my father was offered a job, but he turned it down as the pay wasn't on par with other opportunities in Florida (He was a Country Club Director)... at the job interview Disney even agreed that the offer was low, but tried to argue that the Disney brand was a very prestigious thing to have on your resume.

    Very cool !

Id be surprised if they spent more than a mill on this and thats nothing to Disney. Its in their petty cash budget.

Ive been working with Disney since the mid 90s...i was one fo the lead sculptors on ToonTown and they have always been great to work with. They are very particular but they provide very good instructions. They pay when they say they will (though they do like their 90 day terms)

Obviously its a huge company and the division Bob works with (licensing) is different than my interactions with the Imagineering Dept, but i wanted to offer my personal perspective over the past ~ 18 years.

That is neast (combining beast with neat- my own creative word, not Disneys)).

I too am a Walt fan. No, its not perfect. Much business to do with it. I like to not thing about the business end of it if Im paying for a day to enjoy one of their parks, though. Im not a fool, I like to think- Im aware theyre taking my $$ at every visit.

hey- Walt is a legend- one of the few true Americans who built tan empire while retaining a "nice guy" persona. Biggest ever construction project in the US by a private company. Biggest attracton worldwide. The fun keeps on happening. The stock keeps growing$$, most of the time.

Right. I understand geting a job there is not easy (aside from the menial, service jobs, that is). best way- stat as a temp. Then, get in. It usually works, but even a temp is tricky (as opposed to magical)

A buddy is trying just that- has a marketing degree.......
