I agree, the Saturday turn out is low for the reasons noted by Jeffrey.

In addition: speaking from experience.....as I'm one of the few people who actually made the Sat runs in the past.....I'm not going to participate on Sat this year because the park is: 1) way to crowded on the weekends.....and 2) the park rangers are laying in wait as a result of all the complaints they received the day before......some of the past participants have up close and personal knowledge of this fact :)

I doubt I will be up early on Sat. AM between Sapphires and the poker tables at Bellagio it could be an all nighter. I would be up for a 1PM drive to somewhere or the poker run. Since my nephew is not flying in until Fri. night I will need to take him for a ride on Sat. afternoon.

For the Friday drive, we may do that in the reverse direction as it should alleviate tipping off the park rangers so quickly to our presence. With a (typically) small turnout on Saturday, and the increased traffic in the park, I'm thinking it may be a better option to do an afternoon drive out to the dam on Saturday and avoid the park altogether. Sleeping in after a night at Sapphire doesn't sound like a bad idea either! :D

I guess I have not pulled an all nigher since March but I usually do it before getting on a flight at LAX and not taking an F car for a joy ride.
I am all for meeting for lunch at noon and then going out to the Dam on Sat. afternoon.

In theory that sounds good but if we want to have a decent drive on Saturday (weekend = more people = more traffic) the best drive is going to occur in the morning.

How about a morning drive group and then an afternoon group could meet up with them for lunch somewhere. Has anyone been up to Mt Charleston? How is the drive out there or Red Rock. We could meet out by red rock casino for lunch or a restaurant out there.

I think Saturday will be one of those days where small groups will do their own thing.

Eric - Might I suggest that you plan an early Saturday morning drive for the diehards and then choose a place to meet for lunch. Those of us sleeping in can meet you there. I think we did the Bahama Breeze or something like that last time. Good parking and they gave us a section of the restuarant. We could then go for a short afternoon spin to the Ferrari store at the Wynn and/or Symbolic off the 15 freeway. I know both the managers and they would love to have us drop by. Others can also go to the dam if they want something more scenic.

I will personally be by the pool with Jon in the morning and probably again in the afternoon! :D

Eric - After thinking about it I'm not sure it really matters one way or the other in terms of going into the park the way we've always gone in or doing it in reverse. We're actually doing our "spirited" driving coming in the traditional way. This doesn't give the rangers time to organize so it may be best to keep it status quo.

If we come in through the Valley of Fire side first then they will be alerted to our presence and possibly be waiting for us at the part of the park where we are driving the fastest. Even though I think they routed us off road last year on purpose there's no way I know this for sure. It wasn't that bad. Just got the cars dusty. I'll take a dusty car over a ticket any day! :D In re-thinking the plan I would say to keep it the same as it's always been.

Finally - I did get a ticket last year for speeding in the park. The GOOD thing about a ticket in the park is that it does not affect your driving record in any way. Being a national park they cannot issue points on your State issued driver's license. You basically pay to play if you get caught! :D That doesn't mean we should go crazy but it allows some level of comfort to know that IF you do get a ticket - you just have to pay the fine.

Count me in for going to the Dam on Sat.. What is this about dirt roads last year. I rather pay a ticket then take my car down a dirt road. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Less then two weeks now.

We had a detour in one section of the park where the rangers said a RV had gone off the side of the road. They detoured us for about 1/2 mile on a dirt road.

    TMI! :D

I'll be doing the morning drive Saturday and a run to the dam that afternoon for those that want to go. We can figure out a lunch meet spot that day. Updated itineraries have been emailed to the group. 306 hours to go!

Only TMI for those with creative minds like yours (and Jeremy's also!) :D

As for lunch - call Bahama Breeze and see if they would be willing to have us again. They had good parking and it was nice and casual.

    Ok everyone……back by popular demand:

Thursday night dinner at Panevino’s……voted “the best restaurant in Vegas” http://www.panevinolasvegas.com/PanevinoLasVegas.asp

This will be three years running and those of you who attended the past dinners know the food is out of this world…..I highly recommend the Chipino and/or the Chilean Sea Bass..…absolutely killer.

I have 8 seats left in a reservation for 12 at the Chefs Table.

Please PM me if you’re interested

    Cheers :)

Panevino's is a fantastic restaurant; anyone looking for another great dining experience while we are in Vegas should jump on this. We will still be doing the Paris Buffet as an alternative that evening.
