In the process of measuring my 348 vents for CAD, I had to start the de-gooping process. One of the unfortunate byproducts of this is that you have to scrub off the original white marks on the vents. I discovered the problem after I scrubbed the left-center arrow off mine. Having the right arrow intact but on top of goopy paint, I carefully measured it with my calipers and then made a CAD drawing. I further tweaked that drawing using a photo I took of the arrow. I'm not going to be giving all my files away here, but this one needs to be public domain so that restorers know what the original is supposed to look like. I'm a perfectionist so I hate stuff like this where not all the measurements are clean numbers or easy to make (there's literally nothing to "grab on" to with the calipers, so it's all done by eyeballing it up and staying as steady as possible). Eventually I want my vents recoated and I want the marks put back on correctly. The square off to the left in the drawing serves to show how far the arrow is from the left edge of the vent surround recess. Anybody here got a laser etcher? Try these measurements out and see how the etch looks then post a pic.

Nice work, however 348 vents have circles - I believe this is a 355 vent. Again, nice work.

It's possible. They came off my 348 though. I can't imagine why a previous owner would have switched them out when these clearly have the original gooey paint on them. Are we sure that all 348s came with dots and all 355s came with arrows?

Pretty sure but your car could be a late model year with new vents..

I went ahead and dug deep into my service records. I had thought they refinished my sticky plastics, but a closer reading now shows that they decided to replace some pieces instead. The vents were on that list of pieces that were replaced in 2004, which explains the arrow instead of the dot. Interestingly, I feel like the arrow looks correct for the 348 styling. It's kind of got that 80s strobe effect going on, which matches the strakes and 80s lines. I think I'll keep the arrow when I refinish even though it isn't factory original on my '92. Somehow knowing that these vents aren't the originals makes me feel a lot less bad about breaking the plastic in one spot when I removed them. I didn't destroy any originality!

Watch the video at 0:10 to see the exact marking you seek laser etched. 3:30 shows another Ferrari part.

The video shows a company called AMT but the company that specializes in the Ferrari part refinishing is an affiliate called StickyRX

    R&D,

Good timing this thread appeared. My vents were actually in quite good condition compared to some (Scandinavian sun is not as harsh - when it decides to appear that is), but none the less they were sticky to touch and gathered dust and marks easily. Initially I masked off the recessed areas where the vent graphics were and refinished everything else. Unfortunately one vent could not be salvaged in this way so now I need to reapply fresh arrow graphics.

Aside from laser-etching as a solution, have any long last-lasting transfers/decals been produced that the community are aware of? I would like to be able to complete this restoration myself if possible as I am already 99% there.
