  1. ATTENTION: http/https Bug Fix! Most of us have been experiencing problems staying logged in as we navigate the site. That is simply the result of links varying between http and https, which each require different logons. To resolve we are going to force https starting sometime Wednesday. I am working with a colleague who is turning out to be a habitual liar. Seems he has done everything and during our last business meeting he blurted out he is a Pilot as well. When I asked when he obtained his licensed he said 16.

Isnt this public records? Can I go to a website and see if he is in fact, a Licenses PP?

    thanks

I tried this link to look up my license and there is no record found. Of course, that was 69 years ago and pterodactyls were still in the pattern. Maybe I'm gone and don't know it. 516086

I think if you don't have a valid medical, or haven't had one in a long time, you won't show up.

Don't sweat it Bob, I don't show up either (on the landins.com site) despite my license being current as well as my medical...oh and I'm not quite as old :)

The good news is I do show up where it counts...with the FAA

It may have to do with when they computerized it, I know that airmen with 10-20 year old expired medicals can still show up.

How old is he? Can't say how long it has been this way, but you now have to be at least 17 to get one. I've busted a few people on that little fact, believe it or not...

Didn't they require everyone to get a plastic certificate a few years back-- and make the paper ones invalid?

Maybe that has something to do with it?

As far as I know, it's always been 17. However, you can get a student pilot's license and solo at 16 (in powered aircraft).

You can get a private license with a glider or free balloon rating at 16, so maybe that's what he was talking about.

I was 16 when I soloed, and 17 when I got my license, all in powered aircraft. I've been flying for almost 30 years-- makes me feel old!

They didn't require a license update when they switched over from paper, but they changed the rule in 2010 and pilots were required to apply for the new plastic one by March 2010 to retain their privileges.

    http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/expiring_paper_certificates/

However, I just checked and I know some non-active pilots, who probably didn't update, and they're still listed.

According to FAA regs, you're required to file an address change within 30 days of a move. Perhaps they remove you if they get a bounce-back on mail and no address change?

Jason, whose Blower Bentley ? My favorite old tractor. There is a guy out here who has three or four Bentley's of the same 30's vintage. I love 'em when they run them in the Historics out here. What a Juggernaught!

Just as a test I had Yin search for me a little while back. I got my license circa 1992. inactive since 1994. He found me. (and I'm delinquent in updating my address...)

I did a search and was able to find my record in that Airmen database.

The FAA even has all my data correct.
If I ever have a ramp check, at least I know I'm in there.
