Where I live Verizon introduced FIOS after laying the fiber for free (under a state grant, I think). The central office that covers our town was a great choice: it's the kind of community where locals only listen for the last four digits of your phone number because everyone has the same exchange. Almost. A few of us - literally a couple dozen homes - are served by a different CO and therefore will get FIOS well, whenever. Our neighbors are too kind to gloat, but their pity isn't much easier to take. Yours with envy, ronbo
