Looking at the coverage maps it seems that Arizona is one of the very few states where AT&T actually has MORE coverage than Verizon, and wider 4G LTE coverage.

Anyone care to throw some opinions at this???

My friends in Chandler have barely one bar of service at their house with AT&T. :(

I will be traveling all over the state for work.

Moving out there next month and am going to get a new iPhone 5 to replace my 4S.

    Thanks. :)

You can get a microcell to boost the signal. When I had AT&T, I needed one at my cousins in Ahwatukee/Chandler. Once we installed the microcell, I had full bars and amazing reception. I had okay signal elsewhere.

With Sprint, I have great reception and never have dropped calls vs. AT&T.

Talk to AT&T about the microsell and DO NOT pay for it. Make them send you one for free because it is not your fault their signal is poor.

If you can wait until after you get here, you can try other people's phones in the areas that you are going to hang out most to see what works best. Your work and home are likely most important. Who's best will vary from place to place.

With the right codes punched in, most phones will give you a received signal level so you can make a more objective choice.

I am on AT&T, live in North Scottsdale, and have never had a signal problem in the 10+ Years with them.

I don't constantly check my phone to make sure there is signal where ever I am, but I've never been stranded without signal here.

On a side note, have you looked at Sprint? I put my wife's iPhone on them because of the unlimited text and data plan. The other carriers no longer offer unlimited data (unless you are grandfathered in from an old plan).

I currently have AT&T and have an unlimited plan from 2007. ;)

Why would you buy an iPhone 5, and not something better?

Because there is nothing better or sexier, IMO.

I think this will turn into a iPhone 5 vs. Galaxy 3 debate pretty soon....

The only Apple product I own is my iPhone. Thus, I'm not a fanboi.

I have had an iPhone since they have been out and I'm not ever going to change my phone. But the service provider can always be changed;I'ill just be giving up unlimited data if I migrate to Verizon.

I won't attempt to make a horse drink water. But as for the issue of unlimited data, just have ATT unlock the phone, then get a StraightTalk sim. $45 a month for everything, unlimited, no contract.

Since he is already grandfathered in, AT&T is the best for him. The service/reception is the only variable that affects his decision to move to Verizon or another provider.

I live in Chandler and have no issues with AT&T service. Reception sucks inside work by the airport, but outside its fine.

I have all three, AT&T, Verizon. Sprint. All three seem to work fine in the valley for me.

    All good info. :)

Does anyone have any experience with either provider OUTSIDE of the Phoenix Metro area in other parts of the state?

AT&T in Nebraska doesn't even have 3G outside of Omaha/Lincoln...and I work in rural areas often.

I'm in the Hualapai mountains outside of Kingman right now, posting this with 3G. Between wickenburg and Kingman I lost service for a bit. It's good in flagstaff and South of Phoenix also.

    Thanks!

My friends who live in Chandler must live in a dead spot then. Cuz I (and they) only get one bar or no bars inside their house....

Well, I'll find out this week he. I roll into Arizona.

I am driving out of Omaha Wednesday! :)
