    Maybe I am looking at different pictures than you, but after seeing them, I would never step into an Audi. The car simply disintegrated. The fact that the guy walked away is a miracle and is no credit to how safe Audi's are.

    Great speed was obviously involved here. I doubt any car produced today by any manufacturer would have come out of this well. Some would say that the fact the car is in pieces shows that it did a good job of dissipating energy (as cars are designed to do). I don't think this proves that Audi manufactures safe cars but it certainly doesn't prove that they manufacture unsafe ones.

    Obviously, the point is that the driver walked away from such a big impact.

    I suspect that most luxury sedans (e.g. MB and BMW) would provide the same level of safety. You've all seen pictures of Ferraris that broke apart on impact. It's a design feature, now, as stated, as well as an inherent limitation of structural integrity. A chain is only as strong as its' weakest link, so if something is stressed, it will break first at the weakest point.

    While I feel no safer in an Audi than I do in an MB or a BMW, I most certainly feel safer than in a Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy or whatever. Perhaps some of this is wishful thinking, but, in reality, if you hit something hard and fast enough, I'm not sure it really matters what you're driving.

    Shame. Awesome car, glad the guy is alive. I have a sneaking suspicion that if he was in a British RS6, he wouldnt have been so lucky! (RHD).

    Audis are pretty damn safe, and much safer than most cars on the road. Remember the TT that was crushed by a truck? Driver walked out. Some other cases that I can't recall, as well.

    Obviously the driver was speeding on an old road that is not a race track.
    And it it is a good thing he didn't have a passenger or he would have killed him/her.
