Accidentally came across this. Kit Car magazine is selling a diablo kit car. Apparantly this one was used for a running magazine feature. Now, we have all bashed these, but this one looks fairly impressive. The cute part is, when they acknowledge it COST THEM MORE than buying a real one would. Hilarious!!! ;)

Very cool, if not financially silly...

    I just don't get it...

    $150K fake or $100K real....

You think the guys building these things would buy a fake rolex for 150% the price of the real thing....

    Hmm... New busines plan...

Well....after seeing the pics of the Lambo gathering in Europe that included a couple kits, my opinion has changed on them for the favorable. If you can do one that's so realisitic that it's near indistinguishable from the real thing (save the exhuast note), and you have the cajones to take it to a gathering and not get noticed, my hat's off to you and your car. The fact that many of the *really* good ones DO seem to cost more than the real thing begs the question, obviously, but I just figure "to each his own."

Stupid as it sounds, some may consider a good replica more valuable than the real thing from a parts and service stand point.

i would think so to some as well, its much cheaper to maintain and less hassle (not to mention less worry) a LS1 motor than a V12 lambo motor that will probably cost a ton in repairs if something does go wrong.

Using a kit for anything other than a movie prop is silly.

This replica diablo stuff is getting ridiculous! What is the point of paying more than 100k for a replica when I can buy a real Diablo SV for around the same price? The worse part about it is that the front bumper is way off, and the car is not even complete yet.

I know a lot about replica Lamborghinis and I know a fair enough about the real thing, and I am actually thinking of waiting to get a good low mileage 99 Diablo roadster than buying an overpriced replica.

I just cannot understand how replica companies started marketing their products as cheaper alternatives than purchasing the real thing but now the average good replica is about 80 to 90k. When the difference between a replica and the original is a couple thousand dollars, the advantages of buying a replica dwindle into a small almost unnoticeable ripple.

Because.....There are some that are scared of the real thing. Reminds me of the old chevy V8 in the Jaguar XJS routine. Now they think thev'e got the best of both worlds. Just glad I don't have that mind set.

Well the thing is you could buy a real one for around the same price but when it comes to those awsome maintaince fees over time it will break you in half. Some of these fake lambos can out perform the orginal without breaking your wallet which is why they are well over 110k and they arent that expensive to maintain plus if something breaks on that LS1 you could go to any autoparts place in the country to get parts. Not to mention after market parts you drop in a supercharger on a Diablo replica with an LS1 and exhaust, headers cams you would blow right past an orginal and possibly a few other supercars.

I wouldn't pay no more than 40k on a Diablo replica with a V-8 but if you could build something that could outperform the orginal at a few thousand bucks less and its not that much to maintain i would atleast look into that possibly. If the car itself doesnt break you in half the insurance and maintain costs will.

They spend 65k on it when it wasnt even close to being finshed. they try many times to sell that car on ebay incomplete for 65k! and it didnt even have the engine inside of the car and no door!. I guess they figured out that no one will pay that kind of money for that kind of project. You think 150k is expensive i saw one selling for around 240k! and that didnt even have a V-8!.

Cars are like women, the really good ones cost alot to keep. You have to put up with periodic problems and tempers, but we like our real women. On the other side is the not so popular "transvestite" some even look better than the real thing, but don't let your friends know your running around with a fake. In the end, you have to ask your self, what kind of thrill are you looking for.... IMO
